Position Summary

This is an exciting full-stack developer (IT Software Engineer 1) opportunity that contributes to the development of custom software systems and solving business problems for County departments and agencies. As a member of this well experienced software team, you will use agile software development methodologies and tools to streamline procedures and continuously improve customer service.
You will also have the opportunity to work with a variety of frameworks, tools, and languages, such as Angular, Grails, Groovy, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, MySQL, SAP ASE, Docker, AWS/Cloud, Jenkins, Karma, Protractor, Spock, Cypress and Jasmine. You will gain new experience learning the County’s software architecture and shared programming library. Managing your work to the best outcome will come from utilizing Atlassian Jira, Bitbucket, IntelliJ, Tempo and Confluence to help manage your work. You will independently produce high-quality code, and work collaboratively with other Software Engineers and Business Analysts to provide important information to the people of Pierce County..
Possible projects include: PALS, Assessor-Treasurer Information Portal, Legal Information Network Exchange, Medicolegal Death Investigation System (MEDIS), and Workday integrations

The IT Division has access to numerous training opportunities, which include peer, industry, vendor, and official Pierce County training as well as access to established procedures, standards, practices, and system documentation. Our training program is designed to help you develop as both a professional in your role as an IT Software Engineer and as a Pierce County employee. Your work will directly impact your community, and it offers a great foundation for future positions within the IT Division and Pierce County.
Core Daily Responsibilities:
- Assist to design, code, test, deploy, maintain, enhance, and support County software systems.
- Work with business customers in translating requirements into plans and specifications.
- Assist to develop new software and customize, develop interfaces to, or integrate with third-party business systems.
- Work in a team-based environment, communicating effectively with all levels of staff and management.
- Address customer’s information needs by developing technology solutions and supporting information and technology systems on multiple computing platforms.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- An Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree in computer science or related field AND,
- Two or more years of information technology experience required.
- Additional education or experience which clearly indicates the ability to perform the essential functions of this position may substitute on a year for year basis.
- Special Note: Prior to receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field of study, students in their last term of education may be considered. The recruiting requirements of the position would have to be met prior to employment beginning.
- A valid Washington State Driver's License may be required when travel is required of the position.
- A resume and cover letter are required for consideration.
- Experience in writing software code for web browsers, application servers, and database servers using current programming languages and frameworks.
