Business Development Manager

Location: Calgary, AB
Status: Permanent full-time

For over 25 years AssessMed has been completing independent, unbiased, evidence based medico-legal evaluations and file reviews to several markets including but not limited to , auto insurance, defense and plaintiff tort medicals, Accident Benefits, Catastrophic claims, Life and Health Disability referrals as well as cases from HR representatives throughout corporate Canada. AssessMed is a true national provider with strategically located regional offices in BC, Alberta, Ontario (4), Quebec and the Maritime Provinces (2).

We are currently seeking a dynamic Business Development Manager to be responsible for managing relationships with existing clients while working diligently to onboard new clients. AssessMed is in the “people business” and the successful candidate must display superior interpersonal skills, as the job requires a frequent need for face-to-face interactions with clients and the company’s roster of medical professionals. While training and mentoring will be provided as part of the onboarding process, the successful candidate will be a well-organized, self-starter, one that is driven to succeed while competing for business in a very mature and highly competitive sales market. This is not an inside sales role and the successful applicant will be required at times to work outside traditional, daily work hours.

Key areas of responsibilities will include:

  • Secure referrals from clients for independent medical assessment services offered by AssessMed and then assist clients in the facilitation of referral bookings through the AssessMed referral in-take team
  • Liaise regularly with evaluators, collect and communicate feedback to operations managers, and with completing all customer roster requests
  • Maintaining and growing the book of business with key customers including arranging meetings with existing and potential new clients to sell company services
  • Meetings and discussions with clients to help troubleshoot service delivery issues or fulfill roster requests
  • Regularly attend business related social events after hours and on weekends as required in an effort to establish strong customer relationships
  • Continuously liaise between customers and internal staff to ensure customer inquiries are dealt with promptly
  • Liase with Operations Team to update customer specifics
  • When required to do so, assist the AssessMed QA team with the review of assessor reports to help ensure only reports of the highest quality and standards are released to clients in a timely fashion.
  • Provide weekly sales activity reports to senior management that accurately reflect all business development activities.
  • Administration and organization of business development activities to support growth in Calgary
  • Assist in the preparation and distribution of marketing materials and RFP’s
  • Traveling to meet customers and medical assessors throughout Alberta as needed

Preferred qualifications & experience:

    • Diploma or Degree in Business, Marketing or Sciences
    • Minimum two years’ experience managing operations and/or business development with the medical, legal or insurance industries required
    • Experience in the medical, insurance or legal industry are considered strong assets.
    • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills are a vital component.
    • Professional demeanor and exceptional verbal and written communication skills are required.
    • Strong understanding of time management & the ability to prioritize.
    • Driven and Results oriented, self-motivated, tenacious and resilient. Strong desire to meet and/or exceed expectations.
    • Exceptional relationship building skills utilizing a collaborative approach
    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and problem solve in the moment.
    • Effective at adapting to tight deadlines and changes in priorities.
    • Valid AB driver’s license and working vehicle.
    • High level of proficiency with MS Office
    • Ability to travel as per business needs.
