Job Summary:
Reporting to the Radiation Therapy Manager, the incumbent, as a member of a multidisciplinary team, performs a variety of tasks and acts as a communication link for the Radiation Therapy Department within a patient care area. Unit assistant duties include a variety of supportive functions for patients and staff; intra & inter-facility patient transport, stocking unit supplies, stocking and maintenance of linen, maintaining the cleanliness of the waiting rooms, stretcher bays and service rooms.
Clerical tasks include appointment scheduling, contacting patients for radiation appointments, answering telephones and inquiries and checking patients into the department. The incumbent will interact with patients, general public, health professionals and other hospital personnel. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times according to CCMB policy and PHIA. This position is under the supervision of the Clinical Resource Radiation Therapist.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Graduate from a recognized Health Unit Clerk course and a Health Care Aide course
- Successful completion of English 40S level or equivalent *
- The ability to perform physically demanding tasks i.e., transferring and transporting of patients via stretcher or wheelchair for distances of up to 1.0 km, assisting patients, lifting bags of linen
- Excellent computer skills; proficient with MS Word/Excel/Outlook and internet use
- Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support. (BCLS)
- Must be able to legally work in Canada
Will be assessed during the interview process:
- Ability to work both independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, customer service, problem-solving skills
- Ability to adapt to stressful situations
Preferred:
- Previous experience as a Unit Assistant and as a Unit Clerk including transporting patients
Asset:
- Previous experience in a patient-care setting
- Working experience with ARIA RO
- Ability to speak French
