Position Purpose
The Data Technology Owner (Product Owner) oversees product team development activities, ensuring valuable solutions are delivered accurately and efficiently to our internal customers.
As the Data Technology Owner, you will lead product intake, backlog prioritization, and sprint execution for our internal customer facing data and business insight products. Your efforts will help shape the future of how RLI leverages data for our business and customers. Principal Duties & Responsibilities
  • Responsible for BI product ownership throughout its data life cycle - design, prototype, build, release, and production support
  • Translates the product vision, roadmap, and features into user stories primed for development
  • Manages and prioritizes the implementation backlog to maximize business value and impact
  • Ensures solutions created are desired by customers while confirming feasibility and viability
  • Keeps stakeholders informed of progress and assists in planning rollout of new solutions or features
  • Willingness to be hands-on in completion of non-technical user stories as needed, such as:
    • Performing customer research
    • Documenting workflows and processes
    • Early/rough design work
    • Functional solution validation/testing
  • Engages with other Product Owner(s) to learn, collaborate, and advance Product Management/Agile practices at RLI
Education & Experience
  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, business administration or related field
  • 6+ years increasingly complex professional experience in a technical environment
  • 2+ years as a product owner or lead business analyst
  • Insurance knowledge is a plus
Knowledge, Skills, & Competencies
  • Excellent planning, organization and time management skills including the ability to support and prioritize multiple streams of work
  • Analytical thinker with excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills as well as the ability to adapt to evolving priorities and deadlines
  • Lean Product Management and User-Centered Design methodologies
  • Customer-centric, curious, and creative
  • Practical experience with data visualization and usability standards
  • Hands-on user experience with Power BI or similar BI tools
  • An ability to learn and apply new BI and analytic technologies/techniques
  • Experience in contributing to product strategy development and outcome-driven product roadmaps
  • Experience with data technologies, data warehouses, and cloud-based data platforms
  • Knowledge of data management concepts, including data modeling, data integration, data quality, and data governance
