Function Overview:



The Business Development Manager for Canada is a key leadership opportunity for a talented strategic marketing professional to make a significant contribution to the growth of one of FMC’s fastest growing businesses globally with annual gross sales exceeding $300million. By leading a talented team of product managers and brand marketing professionals this leadership role is responsible for driving revenue and margin growth to achieve the Canadian Crop business unit’s growth aspirations. The Marketing Director will develop strategies to leverage customer intelligence and market insights to create and improve FMC’s value proposition to its target customers and segments. As a key member of the Canadian Leadership Team, a successful candidate will demonstrate sound strategic, commercial, and financial acumen to enhance sustainable business performance, while taking a “hands on” approach in driving for tangible results.



Responsibilities:


Product & Brand Management

  • Lead the Canadian team of product managers and brand managers to drive growth and profitability of the Canadian Crop business through key marketing processes and initiatives which include product strategy and positioning, product planning, pricing, and product stewardship.
  • Direct business intelligence resources to deliver actionable information in support of business strategy
  • Lead annual brand operating plans exercises
  • Lead marketing communications to ensure development of integrated marketing communications plans to deliver key value messages to targeted groups.
  • Lead, grow, coach, and develop talent to maximize motivation and broaden the skill set of the marketing team.
  • Develop and execute go-to-market strategy designed to ensure maximum penetration of the portfolio in the marketplace.
  • Manage the marketing budget.
  • Develop, implement, and manage marketing programs for growers, retailers, and distributors.

Long Term Strategic Marketing

  • Develop and execute the annual strategic marketing plan. Align all appropriate functional areas to maximize the defined results.
  • Define and execute the growth strategy, via organic growth, partnerships, and M&A in close collaboration with the Business Development Director and operationalize for maximum ROI
  • Lead the marketing team in the development of the business unit LRP (long range plan) and budget.
  • Develop strategies and initiatives to combine products (synthetic and biologicals), digital platforms, services, and other technologies into a compelling offer for target customer groups.

Product Innovation

  • Direct commercial teams in the new product development process, stage gate review forum, and project & pipeline management.
  • Partner with the Business Development Manager to ensure that our innovation investment and the new products that are developed are the right ones to deliver sustainable, profitable growth, in a timely manner.
  • Identify gaps within the product pipeline and collaborate with the Business Development Manager and to find and execute on alternatives to fill the gaps.
  • With the Business Development Manager, participate in and collaborate on commercial development efforts including negotiations with potential technical and commercial alliance or joint venture partners.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field required

Experience:

  • 15+ years overall experience with 10 + years of business experience in agriculture or related fields; experience in marketing and sales functions preferred
  • Managerial experience leading teams of 4+ people preferred
  • Knowledge of the Canadian crop protection business, including key distributors and retailers
  • Possesses high level of analytical skills to contribute to forecasting and product capacity modeling
  • Strong presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to sort through data and information and identify market themes and make strategic recommendations
  • Strong drive for delivering results with a strong bias for action.
  • Leadership and team player abilities at all levels
  • Ability to motivate, lead and manage people
  • Strong financial background
