Job Description
- The purpose of this job is to protect the City’s networks, systems, hardware, and software from unauthorized access, loss, or theft resulting from cyberattacks.
- Researches threats, creates contingency plans, reviews suspicious activities, reports security breaches, and educates users on cybersecurity measures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities - The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. - Monitors and remediates critical vulnerabilities on workstations and Windows and Linux imaged servers.
- Reviews, investigates, and responds to real-time alerts within the environment.
- Creates cybersecurity training curriculum, provides security updates, and reports individual training attendance and progress to management.
- Regularly reviews firewall rules and analyzes specialized inspection tool output and automated script development.
- Collates usable data from security inspection tools into technical reports.
- Assists the IT Department with creation and enhancement of city and IT policies to remain current with cybersecurity standards and best practices.
- Serves as a member of the Incident Response Team and coordinates actions and written playbooks on both real and simulated reaction for threat scenarios.
- Participates in business continuity plan development.
- Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience - An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Public Administration, or related field
- 3 to 5 years’ experience in information/cybersecurity.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities which may be representative, but not all-inclusive of those commonly associated with this position
Knowledge of:
- Cybersecurity vulnerabilities, malware, and threat landscape.
- Technical knowledge of enterprise-class technologies such as firewalls, routers, switches, wireless access points, VPNs, and desktop and server operating systems.
- Knowledge of security and compliance frameworks such as NIST, Cobit, ISO, PCI and HIPAA.
- General scripting/programming.
Skill in:
- Communicating verbally and in writing to meet the needs of the audience.
- Applying active listening and asking questions for understanding.
- Collecting, organizing, and analyzing complex and/or technical data.
Ability to:
- Communicate complex concepts to non-technical personnel.
- Compile reports and utilize technical writing skills.
- Apply logic and reasoning to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Identify and distinguish colors.
- Regularly use a computer, software, phone and related office equipment.
- Focus on tasks.
- Pass a Criminal Justice Information Services and North American Electric Reliability Corporation background check.
