Job Summary
The Business Development Manager (BDM) will play a critical role in the growth and expansion of our management consulting firm. This role involves identifying new business opportunities, building relationships with prospective clients, and driving revenue growth. The BDM will focus on understanding market trends, developing targeted strategies, and delivering value propositions that align with client needs and company expertise. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in sales, relationship management, and a solid understanding of management consulting services.
You’ll work closely with leadership to develop and implement business development strategies, focusing on industries including technology, healthcare, government, and other sectors with high growth potential. This role is ideal for a proactive and results-driven individual who can think strategically, build relationships, and drive impactful growth for Watershed.
Key Responsibilities
- Market Research & Analysis
- Proactively Conduct market research to identify new opportunities and potential clients within targeted industries.
- Analyze market trends and competitive landscape to refine service offerings and sales strategies.
- Identify emerging trends and client needs to align company services with market demands.
- Client Acquisition & Relationship Management
- Develop and execute strategies to acquire new clients in targeted sectors.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers, influencers, and stakeholders.
- Manage the sales cycle, from lead generation and prospecting to negotiating contracts and closing deals.
- Lead Generation and Sales Pipeline Management
- Develop and manage a robust sales pipeline from initial contact through close, using CRM tools to track and report on opportunities and progress.
- Strategy & Planning
- Collaborate with senior management to develop and implement growth strategies.
- Assist in setting revenue targets and work with leadership to create business development plans to meet or exceed them.
- Develop go-to-market strategies that leverage company strengths and address client needs effectively.
- Sales Pipeline & Reporting
- Maintain an active and robust sales pipeline, regularly updating CRM with new leads, progress, and client interactions.
- Prepare regular reports and presentations on business development performance, including metrics, progress toward targets, and upcoming opportunities.
- Track, analyze, and optimize performance metrics to improve business development effectiveness.
- Collaboration & Cross-functional Leadership
- Work closely with consulting teams to ensure seamless project initiation and client handover.
- Partner with marketing to develop and execute campaigns, collateral, and promotional materials to support business development efforts.
- Support internal teams by sharing insights, market intelligence, and feedback from client interactions.
- RFP, Proposal Development & Negotiation
- Lead the preparation of proposals, RFP responses, and other sales documents, ensuring alignment with client needs and company value propositions.
- Negotiate terms and contracts to secure favorable terms while balancing client and company interests.
- Work to refine proposals and presentations for high-impact, value-driven engagements.
- Market Intelligence
- Stay informed on industry trends, market needs, and competitor activities to identify new opportunities for service development and differentiation.
- Networking and Outreach
- Represent Watershed at industry events, networking functions, and conferences to enhance brand visibility and attract potential clients.
Qualifications
- Self-Motivated: Highly proactive, self-starter who can work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Finance, or a related field; MBA or equivalent advanced degree preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years in business development, sales, or a related role, ideally within management consulting or professional services.
- Skills:
- Strong sales and negotiation skills with a proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of CRM software, sales analytics, and marketing automation tools.
- Ability to develop and nurture long-term client relationships.
- Strategic mindset with a deep understanding of consulting solutions and client needs.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of consulting services, including business strategy, change management, project management, and leadership training.
- Proven Track Record: Demonstrated success in generating new business and meeting sales targets with strong negotiation and closing skills.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to assess market opportunities, understand client needs, and develop strategic proposals that align with business objectives.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with experience in creating client presentations, proposals, and marketing collateral.
- CRM Proficiency: Experience with CRM systems and tools to manage pipelines and track client interactions.
