The Company

Modern Aviation (the “Company”) is a private equity backed; platform company launched in 2017 that is focused on the fixed-based operator (“FBO”) sector. The Company has been rapidly growing through the acquisition of FBO locations and has significant additional committed capital from its sponsors to continue to grow the business through future acquisitions. Modern Aviation’s strategy is to acquire attractive locations and increase EBITDA at these locations through investment and operational and commercial improvements.

Primary Purpose of the Position

As Modern grows and acquires new FBOs, it is important to develop and promote Modern Operational standards for operations, equipment, infrastructure, and safety. This role will develop standards for FBOs network-wide while taking into account local differences.


Essential Functions

The Director of Operational Standards should have significant operations experience because they must have a keen sense of how operations, safety and FBO management work and incorporate fiscal considerations into decision making.

  • Develop a Modern Aviation FBO standards manual. This includes but is not limited to the following:
    • Standardize Modern’s FBOs to include: furniture placement, aesthetics, front desk, media placement, conference rooms, pilot lounges, third party vendor areas, and hospitality and amenity items, etc. It is important to retain some local look and feel for each FBO
    • Identify national or regional vendors to obtain consistent service and optimal pricing to perform the following services:
      • Manage major capital assets such as ramps, FBOs, hangars, GSE equipment, parking lots, roofs, etc. This is done in collaboration with GMs at each base
    • Collaborate with Sales and Marketing to procure media and communication equipment.
    • Act as the Operations procurement specialist:
      • Work with key vendors and GMs in the areas of:
        • HVAC management
        • Roof management and repair
        • Hangar floor and door management
        • Ramp management
        • Equipment maintenance and repair
        • Hospitality supplies
        • Major equipment purchases (consistency in what we purchase)
  • Work with the Director of HS&E to standardize safety protocols across Modern’s network
  • Work with the VP of Operations in performing operational due diligence for potential new acquisitions and integration into the Modern Aviation network
    • Work with key DD vendors to scope DD and review final reports to incorporate findings into FBO’s capex plan in investment case model
  • Explore ways to be more effective both from a time and money perspective. Be able to compare each FBO side by side and show their costs (maintenance, hospitality, capital maintenance etc.) and explain why each is different. During budget development, this position will be working with the FBOs on their key controllable expenses as well as their maintenance capital budgets
  • Work with each GM and Manager of Properties and Standards on key contracts, timing, and storage of the contracts
  • Work with GMs to scope potential development projects
  • Help with special events at FBOs throughout the year
  • Work with all stakeholders to develop and promote cross training by creating a plan to cross-train key positions like GMs, Ops Managers. Customer Service Manages as well as key CS and LS agents
  • This position will report to VP Operations and work closely with each GM, Finance and Sales/Marketing.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or aviation management. Or 7-10 years of related industry experience.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical, strategic, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, and other position related software.
  • Willingness to travel frequently and work flexible hours.

FLSA Status:
This position is exempt.


Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers.


Travel
: This position will require travel to other Modern Aviation locations, up to 50% of the time.


Physical Requirements
: Physically able to perform frequent walking, sitting, stooping, stretching, bending, reaching, and grasping actions.
