JOB SUMMARY:
The City of Bessemer is seeking full-time Senior Swimming Pool Supervisors. This role involves assisting the Recreation Supervisor with the operation and maintenance of the city's swimming pool system. Key responsibilities include overseeing pool activities, enforcing water safety regulations, ensuring facility maintenance, supporting swim team programs, and maintaining clean, safe public areas. The position requires independent work within established guidelines, with periodic reviews by a supervisor or director.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
To be considered for employment in this position, a candidate must possess the following:
- American Red Cross Basic Lifeguard Training Certificate, YMCA Lifeguard Certificate, or National Pool and Water Park Lifeguard Training Certificate.
- American Red Cross Adult CPR Certificate or American Heart Association CPR Certificate.
- American Red Cross Standard First Aid Certificate.
- Experience conducting pool maintenance such as checking chemical levels, pumps, and lifesaving equipment.
- Experience conducting and teaching instructional swim classes.
- Experience teaching and training employees on how to conduct pool chemical checks, proper safety equipment use, and pool operations.
- Experience assigning and reviewing work, creating work schedules, and monitoring employee performance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Preferred qualifications are experiences, education, and/or other job-related qualifications considered to be highly desirable by Merit System agencies. The preferred qualifications may be used by the hiring agency to identify applicants to invite to participate in subsequent selection processes.

JOB DUTIES:
Typical job duties include, but are not necessarily limited to:
- Oversees facility maintenance tasks following established policies and procedures to ensure the standards of the facility are maintained by ensuring that all public areas and amenities are cleaned and in working order.
- Monitors proper maintenance and upkeep of the pool by regularly performing visual and chemical inspections, updating records and reports, and performing other routine maintenance activities according to established standards and procedures.
- Maintains and oversees pool safety standards using established policies and procedures by ensuring lifeguard stations are secure, safety equipment is available and working, and ensuring all staff is properly trained on safety procedures.
- Supervises staff by assigning and distributing work, directing staff in their job duties, monitoring progress of work, providing feedback and/or training.

CRITICAL KNOWLEDGES:
- Knowledge of American Red Cross first aid techniques including Adult cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
- Knowledge of federal, state and local swimming pool facility safety regulations.
- Knowledge of the maintenance practices and measures for swimming pools, including chemicals and the operation of filters and pumps.
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques of organizing and directing swim instruction and recreational swim activities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed primarily in employer-owned facilities and pools such as community civic centers, recreation centers, etc. Work involves use of standard office equipment, such as computer, phone, copier, etc.
