JOB SUMMARY
The Grid Technology Specialist is responsible for the administration, design, development, implementation, and maintenance of multiple Class A and Class B Operations Smart Grid Technology Systems. This includes managing distribution asset information and planning the business process integration of GIS and other software based operational systems with other corporate enterprise applications. The Grid Technology Specialist is also responsible for the research, evaluation and recommendation of solutions required for the strategic implementation of all distribution Smart Grid systems for the corporation.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential responsibilities of the job include but are not limited to the following:
Responsible for the administration of Class A systems include the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, the Distribution Management System (DMS), the Outage Management System (OMS), and P-Tech system, as well as Class B systems including the Geographic Information System (GIS) and other systems such as PI , CYME, 4Command, and Computer-Assisted Drafting (CAD)
Responsible for the design, configuration, provisioning, commissioning, and administration of the Analog, Status and Control points within the SCADA application
Responsible for the management, configuration and administration of critical communication components within SCADA, including Channels, Channel Groups, RTUs, Inter-Control Center Communications Protocol (ICCP) connections, and PI connections
Responsible for the configuration and administration of alarming in SCADA in accordance with established standards and requirements.
Responsible for the design, creation and management of all single line diagrams and displays in SCADA
Coordinate with IESO, Hydro One, and City of Ottawa Light Rail Transit for ICCP point configuration, commissioning, and maintenance
Coordinate with outside Operations staff including Stations Technicians and Stations Supervisors for integration and commissioning of new field devices
Evaluate and test field devices with Distribution Assets, Stations, and Operations groups
Responsible for SCADA Incident Response including reporting anomalous or suspicious behaviour, triaging issues and concerns, and take appropriate action as per Hydro Ottawa policies and procedures and escalating to appropriate parties (cybersecurity team, vendor) when necessary
First responder to Class A and Class B Grid Technology systems performing triage, investigating, and resolving issues. When required, engaging other groups, coordinating their actions, and ensuring resolutions are reached in a timely manner
Researches and evaluates Operations Smart Grid Technology systems software including Class A (SCADA/DMS/OMS/P-Tech), Class B (GIS/PI), other systems (4Command/CYME/CAD), and makes recommendations for their use
Administer SCADA (including ICCP) and DMS Oracle databases in the Training and Development System, pre-production, and production environments
Configure and maintain OMS and GIS Oracle databases in both development and production environments
Administer, configure, and maintain proprietary PI database in the production environment
Identify specifications, create fields and tables, and develop/generate reports for databases in Oracle and Access using MS SQL or other platforms for Operations asset records, including distribution circuits, poles, streetlights, manholes, switches, stations, etc.
Liaise with IT DMI group on the management of Operations electronic databases used by GIS, OMS, SCADA, and other applications
Develop criteria and specifications for the proper management of asset data maintained by Operations
Design, develop and lead patching of Class A, Class B, and other systems impacting Grid Technology
Lead activities for the collection and implementation of Operations field data
Automation of system reports and tasks through scripting and software tools
Contribute as a member of the Grid Technology team for developing the overall corporate strategy for Operations software applications used in the management of Hydro Ottawa's distribution grid
Develop and maintain documentation for Smart Grid Technology standards and procedures
Develop and maintain contacts with suppliers and users, including municipalities and external agencies
Assist with the negotiation of Operations Smart Grid Technology supply and support contracts, and to resolve issues as they arise
Develop Request for Proposal documents for the provisions of vendor services, evaluates proposals, assists with the negotiation of details, and makes recommendations for implementation
Undertake business process administrator responsibility for all Operations Smart Grid technology related software and hardware
Provide business process support and liaises with users of Smart Grid Technology solutions and recommends methods of meeting these needs
Lead or participate in the development and deployment of business processes and related Operations technologies
Provide input to the Grid Technology budget process and generates purchase requisitions
Coordinate activities for the conversion of hard copy records to an electronic format
Develop and provide training sessions for staff on the use of Operations software applications
Develop and deliver oral presentations
Ensure that all corporate policies are followed.Perform other related duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A university degree or college diploma in a related technical discipline.
Working knowledge of Oracle SQL, Visual Basic / C, Dot Net (.net ) programming languages or equivalent programming languages including a strong knowledge of Access.
Working knowledge of geospatial theories and terminologies.
Working knowledge of Microstation and/or AutoCAD digital mapping concepts.
Working knowledge of electrical distribution system theory, terminology, and equipment.
Strong computer skills; proficient in the use of office productivity and collaboration tools, preferably G Suite
Experience in the development and maintenance of SCADA, GIS or OMS applications considered an asset.
Previous exposure to real time software packages such as historical trending packages and ICCP is considered and asset
English Essential, both oral and written
Bilingual (French and English) is considered an asset.
Valid driver's license - Class G
The terms and conditions of employment for this position are governed by the collective agreement between Hydro Ottawa Limited and IBEW Local 636.
Hydro Ottawa offers a Hybrid Work Model. Hybrid work is position specific, the details of which the hybrid model will be discussed with successful candidates.
