Job Description

Basic Function

The Category Manager, reporting to the Manager, Business Segments will be responsible for execution and implementation of the defined segment strategies and associated projects, leading the product lifecycle / management process and driving alignment amongst key stakeholders to deliver the most value for our customers, distributors and the organization. The Category Manager role requires a blend of project management skills, stakeholder management skills, creativity, analytical skills, and a strong understanding of the specific products in their categories.


The Category Manager will be also be responsible to assist in insuring the consistent and disciplined execution of the marketing management processes including: supporting the management system and corporate governance processes (IMS Policy, IATF and ISO), assisting in the management of the entire lifecycle of product SKUs in the product portfolio. The Category Manager will assist in the development of segment plans and related marketing materials / events / programs in order to deliver the most value for our customers, distributors, associates and organization.


The Category Manager will also support internal and external audit activities in addition to managing the Speed to Market process for their respective product areas.

Job Duties

Market Research

  • Conduct thorough market research to identify trends, customer needs, and competitive landscape within the assigned category
  • Analyze data to understand market dynamics, consumer behavior, and industry developments

Category Strategy Development

  • Manage annual marketing category volumes and margin planning and 5-year plans
  • Lead and manage prioritization and weekly, monthly task list to support both Manager, Business segments and Category Manager
  • Manage, track and report on progress from initiation through to field execution; Assist in the Product Launch Process (PLC) process and in reporting of business results,
  • Lead product line performancing and SKU rationalization activities
  • Coordinate regular reviews for SKU Optimization and Product Lifecycle

Promotional Planning

  • Devise and execute promotional campaigns to increase product awareness, drive sales, and enhance brand visibility
  • Develop a sound data set (Market Mapping) for their segments

Vendor and Supplier Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors and suppliers within the category
  • Work with procurement to negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms to ensure favorable agreements for the company

Content Creation

  • Develop and deliver with the assistance of the category specialist training / webinars, sales enablement materials, packaging and labelling design

Campaign Management

  • Assists market mapping and data insight
  • Support relevant Campaigns in their segments / categories

Agency Management

  • Assist in development of agency briefs to outline expectations and requirements for creative materials

Data Analysis and Budget Management

  • Support Segment / Category budgeting and tracking


Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion

Experience


  • 5+ years of Business to Business (B2B) Marketing or Product/Category experience
  • Project Management experience an asset
  • Knowledge of the lubricants and/or specialty products businesses and product lines is a strong asset
  • Experience of CRM and Marketing Automation (SalesForce / Pardot) and sales enablement is an asset
  • Category management experience in Passenger Car Automotive or Commercial Vehicle lubricants is a strong asset
  • Category management experience in Base Oils, Tire & Rubber and Asphalt modifiers is a strong asset as well

Education Level

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in Marketing or relevant work experience however a combination of education and relevant work experience will be considered

Required Skills

  • Strong Analytical and data driven thinking
  • Good project management skills - must be able to work to a strict timeline for all projects and stakeholder engagement
  • Non-authoritative leadership skills
  • Strong customer focus / Brand-building orientation
  • The ability to take technical information and translate it into terms that our existing and potential customers will easily understand
  • Comfortable with making decisions based on both facts and judgment
  • Computer skills (SAP, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, MS Project etc.)
  • Requires a mix of strategic thinking, creativity, analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across different teams.
  • Experience managing and working with 3rd party vendors and agencies
  • Previous experience of both understanding and executing business strategy
  • Demonstrated experience executing lead / demand generation
  • Strong understanding and track record in using CRM and marketing Automation
  • Excellent communication skills – imperative to manage Business Stakeholders
  • Customer focused – ensure programs provide an excellent customer experience for external (B2B/B2C) customers and deliver on internal customer (business owner) requirements
  • Creative and innovative thinker

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

The role has no direct reports but requires significant stakeholder management across multiple teams.

Work Conditions

  • This is a hybrid role with 3 days required in office (Monday/Thursday and another day of your choice) and 2 days working from home
  • Some business travel may be required
  • This role could be based in Mississauga, Ontario or Dallas, Texas


Physical Requirements

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, lifting or carrying up to 25 lbs., pushing or pulling up to 25 lbs., perceiving color differences. Job conditions may require twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching or grasping, and working in confined spaces as permitted.
