Job Summary
The Business Development & Product Specialist for SMC Products will play an integral role in driving sales growth, deepening market penetration, and providing technical expertise for SMC’s line of pneumatic and electric automation solutions. This cross-functional position involves both business development and product support responsibilities, with a focus on expanding customer relationships and delivering solutions that meet specific industrial automation needs within our multi-state territory.
Responsibilities
- Market Expansion & Customer Acquisition: Identify and pursue new business opportunities. Target potential customers across various industries in designated regions.
- Account Management: Build, nurture, and maintain robust relationships with clients. Focus on understanding customer needs and offering tailored solutions to drive repeat business.
- Sales Strategy & Execution: Collaborate with the sales team to set and align strategic market penetration goals. Assist in developing and executing customized sales strategies.
- Technical Expertise: Act as the product expert on SMC’s pneumatic and electric automation solutions. Support sales presentations, product demonstrations, and recommendations.
- Customer Support & Troubleshooting: Provide technical assistance to customers, including answering inquiries and troubleshooting product-related issues. Help customers integrate and configure SMC products within their systems.
- Training & Education: Conduct training sessions for both internal teams and clients. Educate on product specifications, applications, and value propositions. Ability to travel within the assigned territory and for factory training sessions as needed.
- Market & Product Insights: Stay current on industry trends and competitor activities. Share customer feedback with the product management team to aid in product development.
- Reporting & Metrics Tracking: Maintain detailed records of sales activities, customer interactions, and performance metrics. Provide regular updates to leadership on progress, achievements, and areas for improvement.
- CRM Usage: Utilize CRM software daily for tracking customer information, updating activities, and monitoring inventory and order status.
- Continuous Learning: Participate in training programs to stay up-to-date on new products and technologies. Enhance product knowledge and technical selling skills through continuous education.
- Teamwork & Ethics: Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with all employees. Adhere to company policies, procedures, and ethical standards and ensure these are upheld by the sales team.
Qualification/Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or equivalent related work experience preferred.
- Experience: Proven track record in sales or business development, with a strong technical background in industrial automation. Experience with SMC products is highly preferred.
- Technical Expertise: Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and support technical applications, especially in pneumatic and automation products.

- Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of discussing complex technical and business concepts with diverse audiences. Must be confident in making presentations and facilitating meetings, both in small and large group settings.
- Highly motivated, with strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Self-motivated, results-oriented, and energetic, with a commitment to core values such as honesty, respect, quality, customer satisfaction, and family.
- Competency in basic math skills as needed for business applications.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend basic English, with legible handwriting, proficient typing, and data entry skills.
- Additional Requirements:
- Must possess a valid state driver’s license and maintain an approved motor vehicle record (MVR).
