Office Overview:

As mandated by Section 20.055, Florida Statutes (FS), the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) Office of Inspector General (OIG) coordinates activities that promote accountability, integrity, and efficiency in government. The OIG conducts performance and compliance audits of agency programs and investigates fraud, waste, abuse, mismanagement, and misconduct allegations.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current Florida certified law enforcement officer as defined in Section 943.10(1), FS; and
  • Possession of a valid Florida driver’s license; and
  • Must be able to type 35 correct words per minute; and
  • Must obtain Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) certification within 30 days of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three or more years assigned full-time to an investigative unit of a law enforcement agency; and
  • One or more years of supervisory or management experience; and
  • Possession of a current Certified Inspector General Investigator credential or documented completion of a 40-hour course in law enforcement internal investigations.

Proof of qualifications must be articulated in the applicant’s State of Florida Employment Application and resume. Failure to communicate these qualifications in the application and resume, including years of experience, may disqualify the applicant from consideration.


Duties and Responsibilities:

This position requires a certified law enforcement officer, pursuant to section 943.10(1), FS, subject to call for 24 hours a day, seven days a week, requiring the regular bearing of firearms. This position is certified by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission as a law enforcement position with the primary duty to enforce all laws of the State of Florida, protecting the citizens' life, limb, and property, preventing violations, and apprehending and arresting violators. This position assists other agencies upon request in controlling and securing areas during civil disturbances and natural disasters.


Conducts criminal and administrative investigations involving FWC employees, contractors, applicants, and recipients of FWC funds concerning alleged violations of state law, Florida Administrative Code, FWC policies and procedures, and other allegations of fraud, waste, abuse, and misconduct. These investigations may involve complaints under section 112.3187(5), FS, the Whistle Blower Act. Interviews and secures sworn statements from complainants, witnesses, and subjects. Obtains, analyzes, and appraises documents and other evidence. Prepares affidavits, testifies at administrative hearings and court proceedings, and assists attorneys in trial/hearing preparation. Prepares professional and detailed investigation reports for submission to the Director of Investigations, Inspector General, Executive Director, and other FWC management. Such investigations routinely involve overnight travel throughout the state.


Maintains liaison with State Attorneys throughout the state and other criminal justice agencies. Performs joint investigations with other criminal justice agencies as necessary. May be called to assist other state agency OIGs with complex investigations that call for sworn officers. Takes appropriate law enforcement action when required. May serve as the accreditation manager for the OIG.


Conducts inspections and investigations of FWC employees and systems to aid in developing, revising, and implementing FWC policies and procedures. Participates in the discussion, development, revision, implementation, and follow-up of FWC programs through meetings, conferences, and other forums with first-line supervisors and management.


Conducts other assignments as required.
