What You’ll Do
- Design and Implementation: Develop river restoration, bank stabilization, erosion protection, fish habitat enhancement, bioengineering, and hazard mitigation structures.
- Engineering Support: Prepare engineering cost estimates, specifications, tender documents, and collaborate with CAD technicians to produce design drawings.
- Field Data Collection: Conduct field surveys using RTK GPS to support habitat restoration and floodplain mapping projects.
- Construction Monitoring: Perform construction observation and post-construction monitoring for water resources projects to ensure compliance and success.
- Hydraulic and Hydrologic Modelling: Perform hydraulic and hydrologic analyses using tools such as HEC-RAS (1D/2D), SWMM-based software, GIS environments, and other relevant software to evaluate river stability, floodplain inundation, and aquatic habitat suitability.
- Climate Impact Assessment: Analyze the effects of climate change on engineering infrastructure and incorporate findings into project designs.
- Flood Risk Analysis: Produce river floodplain maps and complete comprehensive flood risk assessments.
- Project Documentation: Prepare detailed reports, technical documentation, and presentations for stakeholders.
- Proposal Development: Develop project scopes, schedules, and engineering cost estimates to support proposal submissions.
- Collaboration: Perform additional duties as assigned by senior engineering staff, contributing to the successful delivery of water resources projects.
- A positive and motivated personality!
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Water Resources, Environmental, Civil or a related engineering field
- 2-4 years of experience
- Background in water resources, stormwater, hydrology/hydraulics
- Eligibility for professional licensing with PEO
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, enjoy working on challenging engineering projects
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- You must have a valid Ontario Driver’s License and have access to a vehicle
- Additional bonus assets include: Experience in consulting engineering or related work experience.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) and be able to work with team members in a multi-disciplinary environment
- A desire to learn new skills and an eagerness to grow within your role
- Must be physically able to conduct field visits commensurate with project work. This may include handling and operation of equipment, travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, and outdoor site visits in all weather conditions on uneven/varying ground terrain. Experience with survey-grade RTK GPS technology is considered an asset.
