The Program Manager will report to the Director of Business Development and provide integral commercialization services to support the customer acquisition, fundraising, manufacturing, and facility development efforts of climatetech startups across Massachusetts. This is an opportunity for a customer-oriented professional to drive impact for early-stage, deep technology climate startups by catalyzing relationships, expanding MassCEC’s network of strategic partners, and helping to lay the first foundations of MassCEC’s commercialization support model.

Job Responsibilities:

Deliver 360° commercialization services to emerging climatetech startups

  • Meet with startup executive leadership to understand strategic priorities for commercialization and provide network introductions to prospective customers, capital providers, and partners for product development and manufacturing.
  • Proactively build MassCEC’s network of referral partners in the aforementioned categories.
  • Help to operationalize non-introduction-based support by developing resource guides for startups that can be shared asynchronously.

Drive cross-agency support for climatetech businesses

  • Represent MassCEC in the Business Front Door (BFD) initiative, a collaborative effort amongst MA economic development agencies to streamline the navigation of public programs & resources made available to businesses in the Commonwealth.
  • Meet with multi-stage climatetech companies across Massachusetts to understand their financing needs and recommend relevant financial programs for working capital, manufacturing, facilities, and workforce development provided by the Commonwealth.
  • Attend weekly pipeline meetings with representatives of partnering MA economic development agencies to collaborate on support for highest priority business cases.
  • Manage case tracking and close-out in Salesforce for MassCEC’s BFD pipeline.

Evangelize MassCEC in the broader climatetech ecosystem

  • Represent MassCEC at industry conferences, social networking events, company site visits, and other key convenings in the broader climate ecosystem.
  • Report key wins from the Business Development team to both internal and external stakeholders.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

Education:

  • Undergraduate university degree in a relevant field, or equivalent work experience

Experience:

  • 3-5 years relevant work experience, 2+ years in a customer success/support, partnerships, or other customer facing role
  • Prior experience in climatetech or demonstrated ability to learn a complex industry quickly
  • Experience with startups & entrepreneurship preferred but not required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • High EQ and comfortable in a primarily customer facing role
  • Service oriented and motivated to help others achieve their goals
  • Able to manage a queue or pipeline – i.e. keeping all cases moving forward
  • Able to work collaboratively and build relationships with other departments across the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to network and build enduring relationships
  • Comfortable with public speaking or dedication to developing public speaking skills.
  • Prior experience with at least one of sales prospecting, customer success/support, email campaign management, or CRM software tools.
