Manager, Perception

Aescape is seeking a Manager - Perception at Aescape who can demonstrate curiosity, a strong sense of urgency, and a commitment to taking ownership of projects from conception to deployment. Your objectives will include managing a team of machine learning and computer vision engineers, developing innovative perception algorithms, and creating data pipelines to drive the success of our autonomous product. What You’ll Do

As a Manager of Perception at Aescape you will:

• Lead a team of engineers in the design, development, and testing of the core perception software and algorithms, including various ML and optimization algorithms.

• Enhance perception capabilities with 3D perception sensors and leading scene segmentation algorithms.

• Design, plan, and implement methods to interpret user body state through remote sensing and palpation data.

• Develop an anatomically accurate 3D model personalized for each member, integrating all relevant data seamlessly.

• Be a model of collaboration and operational excellence.

• Jointly drive projects with our backend, app, motion, control, & hardware teams.

• Hire and inspire top tier talent.

• Mentor and develop team members to achieve their full potential.

• Conduct design and code reviews that facilitate high-quality feedback and efficient execution.

• Create and maintain a technical roadmap, determining key needs, relative priorities, and assignment of tasks.

• Manage project scope and ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget.

What You’ll Bring

• Ability to work hybrid in our beautiful office in SF; remote candidates will be considered.

• 5+ years experience developing perception, machine learning, robotics, and/or software.

• 2+ years experience managing software engineers.

• BS, MS, or PhD in computer science, engineering, or equivalent experience.

• Proven ability to hire and mentor engineers at various stages of their careers.

• Proficiency writing production level code in Python and C++.

• Experience in machine learning and deep learning.

• Experience in classical computer vision and/or signal processing algorithms.

• Desire and bias towards “iterate-and-ship” algorithms and software to production.

• System design skills to design and debug complex systems.

• Ability to review code to encourage best practices and delivery of tested, production-ready software.

• Experience in generating training data for deep learning algorithms.

• High emotional intelligence (EQ), you’re aware of yourself and others.

• A driven self-starter who thrives in sometimes ambiguous situations.

• Strong written and verbal skills, you use inclusive language to ensure understanding.

  Nice-to-have, but not required

• MSc or PhD in CS or related engineering field (physics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, applied math, etc.).

• Prior experience in CUDA development.

• Robotics and ROS experience.
