LOCATION

Located approximately 100 kilometres east of Toronto, NHH is a vibrant community hospital delivering a broad range of acute, post-acute, outpatient and diagnostic services. Directly serving a growing population of more than 60,000 residents spread across a mix of urban and rural settings, NHH directly employs approximately 750 people and relies on the additioal support provided by a highly engaged and supportive network of physicians, midwives and volunteers.

ROLE OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Patient Care Manager (PCM), the Clinical Supervisor (CS) is a leader who facilitates and mentors the interprofessional team to effectively manage of care delivery, utilization of resources, and support patients to be supported in right place at the right time to receive the right care. The Clinical Supervisor leads and evaluates the efficiency and quality of patient care in the inpatient areas, through the lens of quality improvement project management. The Clinical Supervisor enables the interprofessional team to coordinate and integrate services, encourages ongoing performance improvement, and leads department evaluation and quality improvement efforts to create efficiencies with the department to ensure exceptional care, every time, for every person. In addition, the Clinical Supervisor, in collaboration with the Clinical Nurse Educator and Team Leaders will also act as a coach and mentor for staff to empower critical thinking to assist in challenging circumstances.

Responsibilities:

  • Plans, organizes, and leads projects in the department including promoting a culture of professional growth, responsibility, respect and safety; performance recognition; and instilling an appreciation for our Mission, Vision and Values.
  • Continuous evaluation and monitoring of Pay for Performance Metrics, including collecting and analyzing data against productivity and quality benchmarks and efficiencies.
  • Supports the PCM in managing several key processes including Patient Experience Management and the Awareness to Action (Patient Safety) reports processes. Including trends and identification of opportunities for improvement.
  • Support the implementation or the organization’s strategic plans and participate in continuous evaluation and monitoring of clinical activities to ensure strategic goals are met.
  • Develop and implement policies/guidelines to support best practices in patient pathways and other corporate initiatives across the organization.
  • Maintain a high level of clinical competence, participate in professional/program development, clinical training opportunities and staff training, and remain current in the knowledge of and adhere to agency policies and procedures as well as relevant legislation.
  • Identify organizational risks and assist the interprofessional team to problem solve and support solutions to mitigate risk.
  • Utilize shared governance model to participate, develop, and implement quality improvement initiatives.
  • Lead or assist with the integration of client satisfaction initiatives; ensure that all referred client concerns and complaints are satisfactorily addressed and documented in a timely manner.

The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional leadership and quality improvement project management skills, as well as possess a level of understanding of care across the continuum. In addition, you will demonstrate a high level of professional integrity and accountability and play a key role in system development and assume responsibilities as part of committees and working groups as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing (preferred), or a health-related field
  • Registration in good standing with a relevant professional college
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and a comprehensive knowledge of Emergency Care and Performance Indicators required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of current experience in an acute care environment or relatable care setting preferred
  • Experience in Acute Care Patient Flow and Hospital Patient Flow preferred
  • Experience in project management
  • Experience in Quality Improvement, including certification in Lean Methodologies or willing to obtain a Lean Green Belt within 6 months of hire
  • Knowledge of the Home First Philosophy

  • Shows initiative and leadership in all duties and responsibilities of the position.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in the use of electronic clinical information systems (EPIC preferred) and office support software is required.

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Able to work in an active, rapidly changing environment with multiple demands
  • Demonstrates understanding of, compliance with, and commitment to patient safety responsibilities and corresponding hospital plans, policies, and procedures, to ensure a healthy and safe work environment
  • Hours of work to be determined
  • Position includes occasional evenings and weekends

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

Successful applicants are required provide a satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal reference check, that was complete less than one year from the date of hire. This requirement must be met within the first sixty (60) days of employment.

Additionally, to the above, successful applicants are also required to complete the Health Care Worker Health review process which includes providing an up-to-date immunization record to ensure compliance with the Ontario Hospital Association Communicable Diseases Surveillance Protocols within the first thirty (30) days of employment. Northumberland Hills Hospital operates a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy for all staff.
