BWC is currently operating under a hybrid schedule that may incorporate both teleworking and in-person office hours. Employees must be able to report to the office when requested by management &/or for their initial job training.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Utilizing claims adjudicating system to monitor claims work list & manage caseload of Percentage of Permanent Partial applications for both self-insured and state fund claims.
  • Reviewing incoming claims documents to determine required action (e.g. exam referral, schedule for hearing) to ensure claims documents are forwarded to proper parties for action (e.g. Exam Scheduler, SI employer, Industrial Commission [IC]).
  • Processing C92/C92A applications (e.g. mails applications received to employers &/or reps, reviews applications & Workers’ Compensation Claims Management System (Claims Management System) to ensure timely filing & that there are no outstanding issues to prevent application from being processed).
  • Inquiring if Injured Workers (IWs) have other possible injuries within past 10 years & verifies 10-year history check form (i.e. data provided by data warehouse system or C-123 form) is complete & types in missing information (e.g. prior % permanent partial, all past claims, type of physician needed for exam, county).
  • Requesting medical documentation & wage information from (e.g. MCOs, SI Employers, IWs, Employers) as appropriate.
  • Making referral to wage calculation team for wages to be calculated; prepares exam packet by selecting forms on Claims Management System needed by the physician.
  • Updating Claims Management System on the status of exam (e.g. date scheduled for exam, date report received by physician) & forward to the Clerk for exam scheduling.
  • Generating Tentative Orders on Claims Management System for all state fund and SI claims by entering required data into computer form (e.g. percentage of permanent partial, additional conditions) & Right Faxes documents into fax queue.
  • Generating Subsequent Order to set the wages based on the calculations/data from the wage calculation team.
  • Referring claim to claim owner teams to generate payment plans and/or prefect the orders.

Qualifications

To Qualify, You Must Clearly Demonstrate:
Required Experience and/or Education:

  • 2 courses or 6 mos. exp. in English composition or grammar AND 2 courses or 6 mos. exp. in accounting, bookkeeping or general math AND 2 courses or 6 mos. exp. in communication or public speaking or 6 mos. exp. in a position involving receiving & responding to public inquiries or complaints or involving contact with injured workers, employers, legislators, providers or their representatives & public AND successful completion of one typing course or demonstrate ability to type 35 words per minute.
  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
    Note: Classification may require use of proficiency demonstration to determine minimum class qualifications for employment.

BWC OCSEA Selection Rights

This position shall be filled in accordance with the provisions of the OCSEA Collective Bargaining Agreement. BWC bargaining unit members have selection rights before non-bargaining unit members. All other applications will only be considered if an internal bargaining unit applicant is not selected for this position.

Salary Information:
Hourly wage is expected to be paid at step 1 of the pay range associated with the position for candidates who are new employees of the state. Current employees of the state will be placed in the appropriate step based on any applicable union contract and/or requirements of the Ohio Revised Code. Movement to the next step of the pay range will occur after six months, assuming job performance is acceptable. Thereafter, an employee will advance one step in the pay range every year until the highest step of the pay range is reached. There may also be possible cost of living adjustments (COLA) and longevity supplements begin after five (5) years of state service.

Educational Transcript Requirement:
In order for any educational achievements to be considered during the screening process, you must at least attach an unofficial transcript that details the coursework you have completed.

Transportation:
Position may require travel; therefore, persons occupying this position must be able to provide own transportation &/or legally operate a state-owned vehicle.
