Job Description

We are a small business that specializes in handcrafted Bath & Body and Home Fragrance products. We currently sell our products online (e-commerce) and through wholesale partnerships with retailers across the US (e.g. Nordstrom, Anthropologie, independent gift shops / spas / hotels). We are a small team based in Fremont, CA.

We are seeking a talented candidate for a new Junior Operations Lead opportunity. You will be working directly with the co-founders, and you will be trained to effectively manage our day-to-day operations. The ability for the candidate to wear multiple hats and be able to switch gears frequently on various tasks/projects is extremely important. While no direct manufacturing / operations experience is required for this position, you will need to be a fast learner, possess superior problem solving skills, be detail-oriented, be self-motivated, and have strong communication skills. You will receive training (hands-on and self-guided) to learn all areas of our business: Production (e.g. making products), Packaging, Shipping & Customer Service, and Operations Planning / Management.

Start Date: ASAP

Hours: Mon-Fri 10AM – 6:30PM

Location: Fremont, CA

Hourly Pay: $25 - $35 per hour (depending on experience)

OPERATIONS & LEADERSHIP:

  • Effectively manage the day-to-day operations and assist team members with any issues that may arise. This will include facilitating morning and end of day stand-up meetings, using excellent judgement to resolve on-site issues, provide guidance/training to team members and effectively communicate priorities and expectations. You will lead a small team (3-4 members) and be the go-to person for on-site issues. Issues will be escalated to the co-founders as appropriate, and you will have daily guidance from the co-founders to set you up for success.
  • Take ownership of production planning and manage team priorities. You will review and analyze our current inventory levels, committed orders and available resources to set the daily team task sheets. The ideal candidate is comfortable working with spreadsheets, loves organization and operational efficiency, and has the ability to be both detail oriented and to see the big picture.

CROSS-FUNCTIONAL:

  • Rotate through our three core departments: Production (e.g. making products), Packaging and Shipping & Customer Service. You will receive hands-on training to learn the ins-and-outs of all three areas and be able to flex into any of these roles based on business needs. The ideal candidate can learn quickly and enjoys working in different roles.
  • Assist with ad hoc projects, working directly with the co-founders. As a small business, there are opportunities to get involved in various areas: customer success, product development, marketing, sales, process optimization, building new tools/equipment, data analysis and more. You may be involved in special projects that are in line with your strengths and interests.

While the Junior Operations Lead will be involved in production planning and leading day-to-day operations, the candidate will also be working on various hands-on tasks each day (shipping, customer service, packaging, and production).

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Strong proficiency in English (written and oral)
  • Must be 18+ years of age
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US
  • Must be able to follow instructions and SOPs precisely
  • Must be able to lift up to 35lbs
  • Must be able to stand for up to 8 hours a day
  • Able to provide 1- 3 professional references

  • A self-starter attitude – You have a tendency to try and figure things out yourself before asking for help
  • Can work well with ambiguity& problem solve effectively – Oftentimes in our small business, there will be issues and/or projects that arise where the guidelines are not well defined. You have strong mental determination and a hunger to learn and figure things out.
  • Strong attention to detail, but also able to see the big picture
  • Follow up and follow through – You follow through with what you say you will do, and communicate with us if there are unexpected delays or issues.
  • Excellent computer skills and familiarity with Excel spreadsheets
  • Demonstrated leadership skills – While manufacturing/operations leadership experience is not expected, you have demonstrated leadership through either extracurriculars, school projects, volunteering or other jobs
  • Efficient and always striving to improve – You like to figure out the most efficient and effective way to accomplish a task, and are constantly thinking of ways to improve processes. The phrase “working smarter, not harder” resonates with you.
