Position Overview:

The Business Development Manager (BDM) will play a key role in the launch and growth of Skyhawk’s new remote monitoring product line for boaters, Skyhawk Oversea.

Launched in April of this year, Skyhawk Oversea uses proprietary advanced IoT, location and cellular technologies to provide boaters with a much easier, affordable, capable and flexible way to monitor their boats. Winner of the 2024 Miami International Boat Show Innovation Award for Consumer Electronics, Oversea has already been recognized by industry experts as a breakthrough product.

We’re looking for a talented, ambitious and adaptable individual with boating savvy to evanglize and sell Oversea, and to help guide the evolution of the Oversea product line based on customer feedback.

This is a unique opportunity to be in at the ground floor of a new product line from an established leader in remote monitoring, supporting a fun and rewarding industry with great growth potential. As an early member of the commercial team, the BDM will need to be comfortable with wearing multiple hats and handling a wide range of duties focused around bringing Oversea to market.

Objectives of this role

  • Develop and implement a channel strategy for third-party resellers, including potentially dealers, distributors, marina/storage facility owners, boat installers and boat builders.
  • Develop partnerships/affiliates to drive consumer traffic to the Oversea store or to achieve other strategic goals as directed (e.g., marine insurance companies)
  • Set up process for online sales customers (consumer) that require telephone assistance to close
  • Be a voice of the customer to the Oversea product development team – gather, report and make recommendations about software features, hardware product mix and pricing.
  • Evangelize Oversea to the consumer and commercial boating communities
  • Participate as part of the Oversea leadership team to guide the Oversea business forward


Responsibilities

  • Develop and present a channel strategy or strategies to build third-party sales of Oversea (to complement the marketing-led D2C efforts on oversea.boats and Amazon)
  • Work with the marketing team to build materials to support channel-building efforts
  • Call on potential channel partners and negotiate and close distributor/dealer/affiliate agreements
  • Monitor and manage active channel partnerships to help them increase Oversea sales
  • Forecast channel revenues on a quarterly basis, once channels are established.
  • Working with executive management, develop a list of strategic marketing and operations partners, such as e-commerce affiliates, marine insurance companies. As directed, pursue and close partnerships.
  • Establish the process for handling online sales inquiries that require additional e-mail or telephone help. Handle such inquiries directly until such time as inside sales support team is hired, then manage that team.
  • Gather feedback from channel partners, consumer customers and other industry partners and sources about the Oversea offering and how to improve it, including device mix, device and software features and business models. Report feedback and associated recommendations to product development.
  • Maintain a strong awareness of competitive boat monitoring systems including features, pricing and distribution strategy
  • Attend trade shows and conferences; if exhibiting work with the marketing team to ensure that the booth meets the needs of the business development team.
  • Speak at industry events or webinars on boat monitoring and related topics.
  • Maintain records in the company CRM about all contacts and activities
  • Participate in company and management meetings


Required Experience

  • 5 or more years of experience in a strategic business development role, with end-to-end deal experience
  • Deep knowledge of and passion for boating through personal experience; experience in the boating industry a plus


Skills and qualifications

  • Executive selling skills; must be able to present to and negotiate with the C-suite
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with Salesforce or other CRM tools
  • Ability to travel for work (25%)
  • High degree of empathy for others’ perspectives and circumstances
  • Able to work effectively both independently and as a part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
