The hybrid role of a Dataiku Data Engineer and AWS Cloud Architect is designed to support the actuarial organization by combining expertise in data engineering with cloud architecture. This position focuses on building scalable data solutions that enhance actuarial analytics and modeling initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of technical skills in data management, cloud infrastructure, and collaboration with actuarial teams to drive data-driven decision-making.
Data Architecture & Engineering
- Design, implement, and manage robust data pipelines and architectures using Dataiku and AWS technologies to support actuarial functions.
- Develop ETL processes to extract, transform, and load data from various sources into Dataiku and AWS environments, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of datasets used for actuarial analysis.
- Ensure data integrity, quality, and availability for reporting and modeling purposes within the actuarial organization.
Cloud Infrastructure Management
- Architect and maintain cloud solutions on AWS, leveraging services like EC2, S3, Redshift, Lambda, and RDS to support actuarial workloads.
- Optimize cloud resource usage for performance and cost efficiency tailored to the needs of the actuarial organization.
- Implement security best practices for data storage and processing in the cloud, ensuring compliance with industry regulations.
- Manage Amazon EKS clusters for big data applications, including monitoring and tuning for optimal performance.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Work closely with actuaries and business stakeholders to understand their data needs and provide tailored solutions that enhance analytical capabilities within the organization.
- Collaborate with software developers to integrate data solutions into actuarial applications and tools.
- Provide technical guidance and support for teams using Dataiku for actuarial modeling projects.
Big Data Analytics
- Leverage big data analytics tools such as Tableau or Power BI to create interactive dashboards and visualizations that support decision-making processes within the actuarial organization.
- Utilize Hive metastores, Presto, AWS Glue Catalog, Amazon Athena, and manage EKS clusters for effective metadata management and querying of large datasets.
Continuous Improvement & Innovation
- Stay updated on emerging technologies in data engineering and cloud computing to enhance existing processes relevant to actuarial analytics.
- Automate repetitive tasks to improve efficiency in data handling, reporting, and model validation.
- Participate in code reviews, testing, and documentation of processes to ensure best practices are followed.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Experience
- Minimum of 5-7 years in data engineering or cloud architecture roles with a focus on supporting actuarial or financial services and at least 3 years in Dataiku
- Proficiency in SQL for database management and querying large datasets relevant to actuarial analysis.
- Experience with programming languages such as Python for ETL development; familiarity with integrating Python into Dataiku workflows is essential.
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of AWS services relevant to data engineering (e.g., S3, Redshift, Glue) with an emphasis on their application in supporting actuarial functions.
- Experience with self-service tools such as Dataiku, Alteryx, SAS or others for performing analytics, data preparation, modeling, and deployment specifically for actuarial or financial data
- Knowledge of big data technologies (e.g., Spark) is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certifications in AWS (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect) or Dataiku are advantageous.
- Experience with data virtualization technologies such as Denodo or Databricks is a plus.

Effective productivity/technology tools and training
The pay range for this position is $90,300 - $164,700 with anticipated pay for new hires between the minimum and midpoint of the range and could vary above and below the listed range as permitted by applicable law. Pay is based on non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to work experience, education, location, licensure requirements, proficiency and qualifications required for the role. The base pay is just one component of Lincoln’s total rewards package for employees. In addition, the role may be eligible for the Annual Incentive Program, which is discretionary and based on the performance of the company, business unit and individual. Other rewards may include long-term incentives, sales incentives and Lincoln’s standard benefits package.
