Job Summary

The Field Manager plays a pivotal role in overseeing and managing on-site construction activities to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and within budget and schedule. The Field Manager will work closely with the Operations leaders, sales team, estimators, administrative staff, customer contacts, and multiple crew team leaders of the company. The Field Manager will interface with customer staff including foremen to confirm that the site is ready for installation of our erosion control measures (for example, installation of silt fence, seeding, etc.). The Field Manager is responsible for the work, management, and conduct of the crews and crew leaders assigned to this individual.

Duties & Functions

  • Maintain construction schedules and perform regular updates by communicating those schedules to crew leaders and office staff.
  • Meet periodically with the crew leaders and each crew member to ensure that they understand good company practices. These meetings may include but are not limited to instructions on safety guidelines, proper field procedures, and correctly filling out time sheets and worksheets among other items.
  • Responsible for his or her crew and crew leaders correctly filling out time sheets to document the hours that they work each day during a pay period.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the worksheet filled out for each job is correct and supplies all the necessary information the office staff needs in order to invoice the work and complete payroll. If the timesheet or worksheet is not correct, the Field Manager will assume responsibility for correcting it and train the field staff so that all future paperwork is correct. This responsibility is critical to successful company operation.
  • Negotiate/coordinate company work with clients including municipal authorities in conjunction with what has been communicated to the customer from the vice president and office staff.
  • Since it is the goal of a Field Manager to make sure that everything is prepared for the crew leader and crew, the Field Manager will coordinate job site logistics including field inspections ahead of crew arrival. If the site is not prepared for the crew, it is the responsibility of the Field Manager to communicate to the customer what needs to be addressed and to communicate to the company staff to redirect the crew/crew leader to other work until the site is ready and a new schedule is created.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies to maintain a safe working environment for all personnel on the construction site.
  • Responsible for reviewing the status of the equipment for each crew. If this equipment is not properly maintained, he or she will identify what needs to be addressed and work with the Operations leadership team and mechanics to ensure proper maintenance or repair is performed as soon as possible. This ensures company efficiency and improves company profitability and machine uptime.
  • Foster the development of crew leaders so that they can become future Field Managers.
  • The Field Manager will lead by example and give crew leaders opportunities to expand company success and profitability.
Requirements:

  • Professionally represent the company as he or she interacts with customers, office, and field staff, and with the leaders of the company.

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Prioritize tasks based on urgency and importance, allocating sufficient time for both field and office responsibilities to maintain project momentum and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a keen attention to detail and a focus on delivering high-quality results.
  • Serve as an example to the crew leader and crew of integrity, ingenuity, and honesty.
  • Expected to never ask anything of his or her crew and crew leaders that he or she is not willing to do themselves.
  • Always adhere to company safety guidelines and ensure that those whom he or she leads will also follow these guidelines.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to various construction sites as required.
