GEI is looking for an experienced and highly motivated mid-level Environmental Geologist / Scientist / Engineer to join us in our growing Atlanta, Georgia office. Under supervision of senior staff, this individual will provide support to ongoing field and office-related efforts. Field activities may include drilling of soil borings and installation of groundwater monitoring wells; collection of groundwater, sediment, soil, soil vapor and air samples; operation of air monitoring equipment; testing to evaluate groundwater aquifer characteristics; and remedial construction oversight and management. Office tasks include project planning and management; client, subcontractor and agency communication; review and interpretation of environmental data; preparation of work plans and reports; development of investigation and remedial strategies; and remedial design.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties
- Under supervision of senior staff, candidates will work on a variety of environmental site assessments and investigations including soil borings, well installations, environmental sampling of various media, aquifer testing, pilot tests, and technical oversight of subcontractors.
- Support data management and analysis, technical report development, and assist in preparation of technical presentations and proposals to clients and regulators.
- Support the development/refinement of investigation and remedial strategies for various types of sites and contaminants, and the design and installation of remediation systems.
- Project management tasks including budget preparation and tracking, staffing and scheduling, and interaction with subcontractors, clients and regulatory agency representatives.
- Assist with proposals and business development activities for the region.
- This position has a significant field component. Travel and overnight travel is required. Temporary assignment to a local remediation project site is also possible. Candidates should be prepared to work in inclement conditions year-round.
Professional Skills and Attributes
- Excellent computer skills and experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Teams. Experience with GIS, CAD, MS Project, and other technical analysis software is a plus.
- Excellent written, verbal communication, and organization skills.
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively and in a fast-paced dynamic work environment.
- Strong attention to detail, analytical judgment, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to be adaptive, creative, and bring inventive solutions to projects and problems.
- Willingness to learn new skills and build partnerships with clients and colleagues.
- Strong work ethic with a positive attitude and commitment to producing high quality work.
- B.S. in Geology, Environmental Science, Civil, Chemical, Mechanical or Environmental Engineering, or related field. M.S. is a plus.
- EIT, GIT, P.G. or P.E. is a plus.
- A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience. Previous experience/internship in environmental/engineering consulting is a plus.
- Excellent technical report writing and communication skills.
- Experience with federal, Georgia, and southeastern states environmental regulations is preferred.
- Willingness and ability to travel on short-term assignments as needed.
- 40-hour HAZWOPER training.
- Experience with spatial analysis and visualization software such as CAD, GIS or other databases is a plus.
- Ability to pass a TSA background check.
- Ability to pass initial and random drug and alcohol testing.
- Valid U.S. Driver’s license.
