We have an excellent opportunity for a Product Engineer in our Mason, Ohio headquarters location.

In this position, the successful candidate will perform the following job responsibilities:

  • Maintain Florida Product Approvals within the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation to include product renewals and new product submissions
  • Maintain Miami-Dade product NOA’s to include product renewals and new product submissions
  • Work with outside test laboratory for third party verification of product design and testing. Review evaluation reports and submit to regulatory bodies for product approval
  • Maintain and update quality database, including QMS documentation
  • Ensure product testing complies with DAMSA 108/ASTM E 330-02 standards
  • Perform Internal Audits to monitor and improve Quality Management System.
  • Ensure internal Windload test lab is in compliance with ISO 17025 standards to maintain certification
  • Prepare for and participate in annual ANSI/ISO external audit
  • Attend manufactures association events to stay up to date on latest regulatory changes
  • Resolve product related issues, including product design, feature enhancements, value engineering, installation, and applications. Works closely with Marketing, Sales, Production, Quality, and Manufacturing Engineering, and purchasing.
  • Implement strategic, multiple-plant, assigned product engineering projects via the engineering change process procedure. Completes other product engineering projects as assigned. Lead design engineer on projects with capital expenditures of over $1,000,000.
  • Initiate and implement product improvement and cost reduction ideas.
  • Implement product changes and specification changes in a timely manner in conjunction with other functional areas throughout Clopay. Troubleshoot production problems directly related to engineering specifications and bills of material.
  • Create detailed engineering analysis based on testing, experience, scientific theory, and engineering principles for use in the design and application of the product line or new product line extensions.
  • Communicate product specifications and product changes to internal customers and help in communications to external customers. Use the Engineering Release/Notice procedure as the primary tool in accomplishing this task and direct communications with external customers as required.
  • Train and educate various internal and external customers on product offerings and product specifications. Internal customers include production, marketing, and sales. External customers include customers, consumers, and regulatory agencies (governmental, legal).
  • Responsible for developing product cost and capital expenditure data as required.
  • Travel as required to customers, manufacturing plants, vendors, and to provide other company representation.
  • Assist sales representatives or customers in understanding their product requirements, installation methods, and their proper applications. Makes suggestions on available alternatives if possible .

Requirements Include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology required. Professional Engineer (P.E.) license highly preferred or the ability to acquire license within a short time period.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ prior experience in the garage door industry or ten years’ of other product engineering experience, with exposure to various types of manufacturing processes.
  • Heavily involved in product design and specifications.
  • Effective analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills required.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills with focus on organizational results.
  • CAD experience Excellent communication and analytical skills with focus on organizational results.
  • Expert proficiency in Excel (highly proficient with complex formulas, functions and pivot tables).
  • Travel, approximately 15% is required.

Pay: $100,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
