Job Description

You are a sales professional with experience selling to independent garden centres (IGC’s). Reporting to the Vice President of Sales and Marketing, you will work with all other departments providing exceptional customer service to existing IGC’s and securing relationships with new clients in the IGC market space.

Success in this role means driving sales growth with existing and new clients, increasing market share in Ontario, and advancing Foliera as an important supplier of both live goods and hard goods to the Garden Centre sales channel.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Takes the lead in developing and proactively promoting Foliera’s seasonal and everyday programs in both hard goods and live goods to IGC’s across Ontario. Works with design, marketing, purchasing, production, and operations to develop, present, and execute programs that deliver customer satisfaction.
  • Manage relationships with buyers at each assigned account, balancing the needs and priorities of the client with those of Foliera.
  • Identify, pursue, and secure new accounts among the number of IGC’s in Ontario not currently served by Foliera.
  • Be the face and voice of Foliera to the customer. As the first and main point of contact with the customer, you will maintain a productive and professional working relationship with the customer ensuring the mutual and ongoing success of both Foliera and the customer.
  • Conduct periodic on-site visits to customers to present and review marketing materials and secure pre-book orders for peak demand seasons.
  • Approximately 5 days per month during off-peak periods (marketing and prebook orders) and 2 days per month (visit top customers) during peak periods, subject to change as required.
  • Track and report on customer visits, interactions, and business development as required and directed by the Vice President of Sales and Marketing.
  • Understand and share KPI’s for the IGC sales channel, working with the Vice President of Sales and Marketing to track success and improve performance against KPI’s as directed.
  • Foster a powerful sense of teamwork with other stakeholders within Foliera, including purchasing, marketing, operations, production, and finance.
  • This position includes responsibility for sales to two existing Mass Market Retail customers in Ontario. This includes:
  • Maintaining relationships with buyers and store managers to grow sales profitably to these accounts.
  • Working closely with category managers at each client as well as internally with production, purchasing, and marketing to develop, present, and execute successful weekly and seasonal programs.
  • Added responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications:

  • 5-10 years’ experience selling live plant products and hard goods to independent retailers in Canada. These could include Garden Centers and Flower Shops.
  • Experience selling indoor plants directly from a greenhouse grower will be considered an advantage.
  • Persuasive communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage a variety of customer needs simultaneously and successfully.
  • Ability to take initiative in and ownership of the development, presentation, and execution of weekly and seasonal programs tailored to each customer’s needs.
  • A professional sales presence and the ability to conduct successful on-site customer visits.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite including Word and Excel.
  • Demonstrated efficiency, attention to detail, accuracy, and results oriented.
