US Country Lead, Skeletal Conditions BU

Location: San Rafael based preferred

Summary
This is a new role within an evolved organization operating model. The individual will be a key member of the leadership team for the newly created Skeletal Conditions Business Unit, which oversees and is responsible for the entire Skeletal Conditions portfolio globally within BioMarin.
Reporting directly to the Head of Skeletal Conditions Business Unit, Senior Vice President, the US Country Lead, Skeletal Conditions is accountable for successfully delivering our vision of Skeletal Conditions for the US market by leading a diverse team and managing all in-country operations. This high-visibility, hands-on position will have primary responsibility to deliver on ambitious revenue growth and profitability targets across our Skeletal Conditions portfolio in the US. In this leadership role, the incumbent will have accountability for driving execution of BioMarin’s Skeletal Conditions commercial strategies, as well as representing and communicating customer opportunities that can enhance the access and impact of BioMarin’s Skeletal Conditions portfolios.
This individual will utilize their industry experience to make sound business decisions to ensure that all key commercial opportunities within the country are identified and acted upon. Additionally, the role will maintain and enhance BioMarin’s excellence in culture, products, and customer centricity as part of the Skeletal Conditions Leadership team.
The successful leader will be a dynamic, experienced individual with a mix of strategic agility, business acumen, and a strong people management experience and an ability to inspire and lead a team and work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders in the pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical industry.
Responsibilities
  • Provide commercial leadership and lead the Skeletal Conditions US team.
  • Develop the strategic positioning of Skeletal Conditions portfolio products to achieve or exceed sales and profitability with the goal of highest possible performance. This includes messaging, branding of core programs, driving the execution and development of analytics and performance metrics
  • Ensure consistency with global strategy and appropriate adaption for local circumstances where needed working closely with functions within the BU, cross-functional partners as well as global functions.
  • Institute a robust performance-oriented culture with a track record of improving business practices and process while maintaining behavioral norms that support collaboration and innovation
  • Lead the development of US business plans encompassing forecasts, budget and integrated medical/marketing strategies in line with global strategy and local needs for Skeletal Conditions products within BioMarin
  • Plan and oversee all activities related to marketing and promotion of Skeletal Conditions’ products in the US
  • Work collaboratively with and provide strategic input and recommendations to other functions (e.g., BU Marketing, Medical Affairs, Value, Access and Strategic Pricing, etc.) in their strategies and activities at a local level to achieve shared business objectives
  • Ensure there is effective financial planning, and that growth and profit objectives are clearly established to ensure delivery against the agreed P&L
  • Implement appropriate metrics, conduct frequent financial and performance reviews, achieve a commitment to accountability and develop action plans to improve performance
  • Manage expenses to budget and deliver revenue objectives and margin targets. Ensure the accurate and timely communication of results.
  • Partner and build relationships with health policy makers, advocacy groups and other health institutions to increase the awareness of genetic diseases and the need for new treatments
  • Participate in and lead the evolution of the BioMarin’s operating model that has driven significant organizational realignment and changes in the recent years
  • Active contributor and member of Skeletal Conditions BU leadership team
  • Attract, develop, and retain high performing talent
  • Build vibrant team culture and shape next generation of BioMarin leaders
Qualifications
  • BA/BS in Business or Life Sciences (MBA preferred)
  • 15+ years of progressive pharmaceutical/biotech experience
  • Biotech/specialty experience involving high value products preferred
  • Strong track record of successful commercial leadership experience with innate ability to coach, inspire, mentor, attract and develop diverse & inclusive teams
  • A proven track record of leading organizational change initiatives and major product launches
  • Thorough understanding of health systems, customer segments, regional market dynamics, and KOL development for the US pharmaceutical/biotechnology marketplace
  • Experience in budget responsibility, negotiating for resources, and maximizing the return on investments
  • Ability to identify strategies with greatest business impact, formulate an appropriate business plan and motivate teams to execute the plan
  • Previous cross functional experience (e.g. Sales Leadership, Brand Team/Marketing, Market Access and/or Sales Operations) or related industry experience engaging with key healthcare providers is highly valued.
  • Ability to influence and gain cooperation from others and excellent communication skills are required. A high degree of collaboration with other cross-functional teams is essential.
  • The ability to lead and role model strong leadership not only for the areas they are directly responsible for, but the enterprise as a whole
  • Strong sense of accountability and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic and high-pressure environment, flexible and adaptable to a changing environment
  • A passion for improving patient and business outcomes
  • Willing and able to travel routinely, at times on a weekly basis

In the U.S., the salary range for this position is $ 328,000 to $ 492,000 per year, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A discretionary bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
