What we are looking for:
SCS Engineers is seeking a full-time Techncial Associate to work with scientists and engineers on a variety of projects including municipal solid waste landfills, groundwater well monitoring, industrial site inspections, chemical/petroleum spills, brownfields redevelopment, electric utility spill response, remediation, air monitoring, and construction and demolition landfills. The position involves extensive fieldwork, with travel ranging from 10% to 90% of the time.
How you can make an impact:
Record and collect data during fieldwork, including soil characteristics, groundwater/surface water data, meteorological conditions, compliance information, and waste characterization data.
- Conduct sampling and monitoring of soil, soil vapor, groundwater, surface water, air, asbestos, geosynthetics, landfill gas, and leachate.
- Perform groundwater monitoring, landfill gas monitoring, and vapor monitoring.
- Assist in drilling activities, well installation, borehole logging, well development, and sampling.
- Conduct landfill liner, cap, and gas system construction quality assurance (CQA).
- Prepare field notes, daily logs, and site-specific health and safety plans.
- Calibrate, maintain, test, troubleshoot, and repair field equipment.
- Oversee SCS and client subcontractors.
- Assist in preparing environmental assessments, compliance reports, permit applications, and regulatory submittals.
- Participate in emergency spill response during regular, evening, and weekend hours as required.
- Conduct site inspections and construction oversight for remediation and landfill projects.
- Package and ship samples for laboratory analysis, creating proper chains of custody.
- Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and maintain up-to-date health & safety training.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science from an accredited institution is preferred. Candidates without a bachelor’s degree will be considered if they have a minimum of 1 year of relevant environmental and/or engineering experience.
- Completion of (or willingness to complete) a 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training required.
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Basic understanding of scientific concepts including physics, statistics, chemistry, mathematics, and geosciences.
- Ability to use basic hand and power tools.
- Capable of performing fieldwork, including lifting up to 50 pounds and standing for long periods.
- Valid driver's license with a driving record in good standing required.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and complete tasks with minimal direction.
