Lab Supervisor

Aerotek is recruiting for a Lab Supervisor position for a heavy industrial company in Goose Creek, SC. Looking for the candidate to have a strong chemistry understanding and degree. This position will supervise 4 shift lab technicians and 1 day shift technician.

Aerotek will conduct all prescreening requirements for this position before scheduling interviews with the company. Salary range is $70k-$100k based experience and interview. Responsibilities include:

• Managed the production laboratory operations for a primary aluminum smelter; supporting all aspects of plant operations including the Carbon Plant, Potlines, and Cast House at the Goose Creek, SC plant. One of the few remaining primary aluminum smelters in the U.S.
• Certified all product chemistry for all aluminum alloys created in the Cast House with Spark-OES spectroscopy and a team of four spectrochemical technicians staffing our laboratory in continual operation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every day of the year.
• Supported carbon plant and potline operations with continual analyses of various raw materials and intermediate products using X-Ray Diffraction, X-Ray Fluorescence, and NDIR analyzers.
• Served as primary technical expert and service person for all laboratory instrumentation and equipment. Regularly requiring working with pumps, electronics/electrical wiring, PLCs, hydraulics/pneumatics, etc. Coordinated Preventative maintenance service visits with OEMs when necessary.
• Provided technical knowledge and assistance regarding lab operations and product chemistry to technical sales, operations, quality management, and customers for our alloy products. Regularly involved with technical discussions and decisions regarding new product/specification implementation.
• Often had specification and product quality discussions with operations and quality management to ensure the best possible product was being cast and delivered to our customers - in accordance with our ISO 9001 certified QMS for our casting operations.
• Maintained laboratory budget and minimized costs via proper supplier selection, cost effective management practices, and good instrumentation/equipment maintenance.
