AWS Cloud Migration Engineer

Xentity is seeking an experienced AWS Cloud Migration Engineer to support the design, planning, and execution of technical solutions for data center workload migrations and cloud-based architectures. This role combines technical expertise in architecture design with practical implementation skills, requiring strong AWS experience and collaboration with diverse stakeholders. Regular travel across the United States, including to science centers, is required to oversee project execution and ensure client satisfaction.
Position Scope
- Supporting/Developing architectural design and planning for the migration of on-premise systems to AWS or other Cloud Service Providers, focusing on efficiency, scalability, and security.
- Design and implement cloud-based architectures utilizing AWS technologies, including:
- AWS CloudFormation
- AWS Migration Hub
- AWS Application Migration Service
- AWS Control Tower
- Collaborate with federal and contractor teams to identify requirements and implement workload migrations tailored to different science center needs.
- Work with AWS CloudFormation to manage infrastructure as code and ensure efficient deployments.
- Implement CI/CD pipelines in AWS using GitLab, CloudFormation, and AWS CodePipeline:
- Administer GitLab Runners and manage merge requests for deployments.
- Integrate GitLab Runners with AWS using IAM Roles.
- Implement and manage S3 buckets, IAM permissions, and other key AWS services.
- Ensure architecture solutions align with best practices for performance, reliability, and cost-efficiency.
- Provide technical leadership, including training from Fed DevOps teams and working collaboratively with the Xentity team.
- Regularly travel to science centers for two-week migration cycles (50% travel) to conduct on-site work sessions and collaborate with teams on workload migrations.
Experience
- Minimum 6 years of experience with a BS/BA, 4 years with an MS/MA, or 2 years with a PhD.
- Strong background in cloud architecture design, AWS services, and migration projects.
- Hands-on experience with AWS CloudFormation (must-have) and Terraform (Nice to Have).
Required Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen to meet government contract requirements.
- Must have an Active Public Trust clearance or the ability to obtain one.
- Must be able to travel up to 50% of the time, including to US customer server centers.
- Must have one of the following certifications or obtain within 90 days of hire:
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate
- AWS DevOps Engineer - Professional
- AWS Certified Developer – Associate
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with technical teams, clients, and stakeholders.
Preferred Requirements
- Experience with:
- AWS Lambda Functions
- Python/Node.js scripting
- Automated Maintenance
- IAM Permissions, SNS Topics, Alarms CloudWatch, and Guard Duty
- Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and other DevOps practices
- Familiarity with setting up permission boundaries and adhering to system guardrails (e.g., Service Control Policies).
Job Goal
First 30 Days:
- Familiarize yourself with client's tier 1 & tier II operations
- Shadow senior architects and begin working on DevOps tickets for AWS migrations.
- Gain understanding of different sever centers needs for migration workloads.
First 60 Days:
- Conduct on-site sessions with science centers and collaborate with teams on specific migration needs.
- Engage with stakeholders to gather technical requirements and provide architecture recommendations.
- Assist in troubleshooting and resolving architecture-related challenges.
- Developing IaC with CloudFormation
First 90 Days:
- Independently design and lead the implementation of cloud architectures for assigned projects.
- Ensure architecture solutions align with AWS best practices for scalability, security, and cost optimization.
- Document and present architecture plans to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
First Year Job Goal:
- Establish yourself as a reliable AWS Cloud Migration Engineer capable of leading end-to-end cloud architecture and migration projects.
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders and demonstrate consistent delivery of high-quality solutions.
- Continuously enhance processes and workflows for architectural design and implementation.
