GEI’s Knoxville Branch has an immediate opportunity for an entry-level Structural Engineering professional. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a project team providing structural and geostructural services to local, regional, and nationwide GEI clients.
Your role as an entry-level geotechnical professional is to work on small-scale and large-scale projects, and as a team member under the supervision of a senior engineer. You will perform a variety of project tasks related to structural and geostructural engineering in support of power, infrastructure, commercial, transportation, and dam projects that will include field work, analyses, design, coordination of project activities, and client interaction. Essential Responsibilities & Duties
- Assist Senior Engineer or Project Manager in preparation and review of calculations, drawings, specifications, and reports
- Effectively communicate with Senior Engineer or Project Manager and other project team members
- Occasionally perform field work related to construction oversight or geotechnical projects
- Interface with clients for assigned projects, effectively communicate with clients and their subcontractors, and be responsive to their requests
- Assist in preparation of Health and Safety Plans and Quality Plans
- A general understanding of structural and geotechnical engineering principles and analysis methods
- Basic experience in Microsoft Office, and familiarity with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, Bluebeam Revu, GeoStudio, and gINT is preferred, or willingness to be trained.
- Ability to interpret sketches, engineering drawings, and other similar material
- Strong attention to detail with good analytical and judgment capabilities
- Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
- Willingness to work 25 percent of working hours in the field in support of project activities
Education and Experience
- B.S. or M.S. degree in Civil Engineering. Specialty in Structural Engineering preferred.
- FE/EIT certification preferred, but not required
- Minimum of 0-3 years of project experience
