Capital Square seeks to provide accredited investors with tax-advantaged real estate investment programs that qualify for tax deferral, provide passive income during the investment’s holding period, and deliver risk-adjusted returns when taken full-cycle.

Summary

Capital Square is looking for a highly motivated individual to join its team as it expands into residential property management. Reporting to the Controller, the Accounting Manager, CS Living will be responsible for the daily accounting and month end reporting for a portfolio of residential properties. This role will work closely with the asset management, property management and finance teams. In addition, he, she, or they will collaborate with the Controller in setting and refining policies and procedures as the department expands along with mentoring and training of new accountants.

Primary Responsibilities

• Manage the day-to-day activities and month-end close process, oversee General Ledger accountants
• Ensure financial statements for the assigned portfolio of properties is completed accurately and timely and financial records are maintained in compliance with company policies and US GAAP
• Produce month end internal and external reports
• Manage the daily accounting activities of the portfolio and month-end close process
• Detailed review of property financial statements for accuracy and completeness (profit and loss statements, balance sheets, general ledgers and sub-ledgers)
• Create and post journal entries, including and month end accrual and prepaid entries, and maintain related account reconciliations
• Manage daily cash account transactions
• Perform limited treasury functions such as initiating of wires and preparation of cash funding requests. Prepare bank reconciliations
• Review accounts payable for proper coding; assist accounts payable manager as needed
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure proper reporting of financial information
• Meet periodically with property and asset management teams to discuss property performance and financials
• Analyze financial data for variances and provide relevant information to the operations team
• Act as an internal and external customer service leader and assist management with more complex issues
• Work with management in setting and refining policies and procedures, continually focusing on accuracy and efficiency
• Mentor and assist with training of new accounting staff as department expands with the addition of properties
• Support property and asset management with the budgeting process
• Respond to external audit requests
• Ensure accurate and timely filing and payment of sales and use tax, as needed
• Perform ad hoc analysis and projects as requested

Knowledge and Skills Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
• CPA or master’s degree a plus
• Minimum of 6-8 years of accounting and financial reporting experience in real estate property accounting
• Knowledge of real estate terms, definitions, and accounting
• Knowledge of US GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting required
• Demonstrates full understanding of general ledger and sub-ledger
• Technology proficient, including Microsoft Word and Excel
• Experience with Yardi preferred
