GEI’s Water Resource practice is growing, and we are seeking a Water Resource Engineer/Project Manager to join one of our Michigan offices (Plymouth, Traverse City, Marquette). This position will be part of a connected team of GEI Water Resource and H&H professionals across the country solving complex and multi-disciplinary engineering problems, contributing to the planning and implementation of water resource projects in a variety of natural and urban settings.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties
- Execute projects and assignments in coordination with project managers and support staff. Project management of small to medium projects within technical specialty. Example projects include dam removals, river restoration, dam rehabilitation, flood control, stormwater management planning and design.
- Oversee and lead aspects of technical studies, design development, and development of construction drawings, technical specifications, bid documents and project schedules.
- Prepare detailed written memoranda and reports on technical assignments and present technical information to peers and clients.
- Prepare design documents including drawings, technical specifications, basis of design documents, bid documents and project schedules.
- Perform construction oversight/field observation.
- Travel to project sites and other offices as required, including overnight travel.
Minimum Qualifications
- 4-10 years of professional experience demonstrating skills mentioned above.
- B.S. in Civil Engineering or Water Resources related field, M.S. considered a plus.
- Registered Michigan Professional Engineer or ability to obtain in one (1) year.
- Ability to work in a team environment and meet deadlines.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to work well in a team atmosphere and on individual assignments.
- Ability to travel on temporary work assignments and possess a valid driver’s license.
- Experience with H/H modeling, stormwater BMP and river restoration planning, design and monitoring. Construction oversight/field engineering experience.
Preferred Qualification
- Experience with USEPA SWMM, HEC-RAS (both 1D and 2D versions) and HEC-HMS.
- Experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3D software, with ability to analyze/convert surfaces, particularly to support H/H modeling program demands.
- Grant writing and/or administration. Experience either with writing or administering state and local grants is a plus.
- Working knowledge of Michigan EGLE, Federal and Local regulatory and permitting requirements.
