Job Description

The Assistant Manager, under the direction of the General Manager supports the General Manager in most aspects of the management of the retail operations of Misty Mountain Cannabis. They provide leadership and direction, control costs, maintain inventory, and maximize revenue through the achievement of sales targets.

The Assistant Manager is responsible for assisting in implementing operational plans. They support the General Manager in training, controlling costs, and implementing policies and procedures. The Assistant Manager participates in recruitment, hiring, training and development of staff, labour relations, staff benefits package, scheduling, and processing payroll in accordance with the Employment Standards Act. The Assistant Manager is expected to participate as required in all other duties.

The Assistant Store Manager is responsible for managing the store in the absence of the General Manager and may be additionally responsible for all facets of the Supervisor and Customer Service and Sales Representative Roles. The Assistant Manager is responsible for adhering to and implementing all applicable SOPs.

Safety and Security

  • Participates in safety risk assessment and implements policies and procedures to reduce risks at the direction of the General Manager;
  • Maintains adequate security of staff, store, customers, products, and company data at all times;
  • Observes and implements inventory security policies and directives;
  • Adheres to all policies and procedures to ensure the safety of the staff, store, and assets;
  • Follows and enforces safe cash-handling procedures;
  • Implements health and safety workplace plans.

Financial Management

  • Provides support to the General Manager in monitoring the store budget and costs;
  • Assists with variance investigations;
  • Practices and enforces controls for physical cash;
  • Monitoring and maintenance of the cashflow, weekly cash counts and general petty cash management

Compliance

  • Is intimately familiar with and applies the Cannabis Act, Cannabis Control and Licensing Act, Cannabis Distribution Act, Cannabis Licence Terms and Conditions Handbook, and other relevant federal, provincial, and municipal regulations in all aspects of the business operations;
  • Communicates and applies LCRB policies, procedures, and regulations, and remains up-to-date on all requirements for licensed cannabis retail stores in BC;
  • Ensures that the objectives of the LCRB are met in terms of customer service, product knowledge, inventory and product control, and sales;
  • Implements training policies to ensure staff are aware of and are consistently enforcing policies related to the relevant regulations;
  • Ensures staff have obtained the Worker Qualification clearance and training, and maintains a record of qualifications on-site;
  • In line with the 2ID policy, ensures requests for two pieces of identification to provide proof of age to meet legal requirements.

Operations

  • Develops store operations policies and directives in concert with the President and consultants;
  • Ensures a desirable in-store experience through physical layout, in-store signage, and processes;
  • Provides guidance and direction to staff to implement operational improvements;
  • Liaises with service providers related to store maintenance, e.g., electrical, plumbing, office supplies, waste removal, hydro, and, internet;
  • Is the designated point of contact for legal and regulatory authorities when the General Manager is unavailable;
  • Organizes workloads and work schedules, and resolves related problems under the guidance of the General Manager;
  • Maintains inventory management and control protocols under the direction of the General Manager;
  • May be responsible for ordering inventory, verifying product deliveries, and organizing product storage at the direction of the General Manager.

Marketing

  • Implements the marketing and brand development strategies at the direction of the General Manager, in accordance with the Cannabis Act, Cannabis Control and Licensing Act, and Cannabis Licence Terms and Conditions Handbook;
  • Contributes towards the maintenance of strong community relations with neighbouring businesses, residents, and the wider community;
  • Assists with the ongoing management of the business' website, social media (i.e., Facebook, Instagram, Google Business), email, and file storage accounts.

Sales and Service

  • Provides superior customer service;
  • Guides staff and demonstrates a customer-centric culture that provides a positive experience for customers and the community;
  • Works towards achievement of sales targets and provides guidance to staff in order to meet those targets;
  • Participates in merchandising, staff training, and customer relations activities;
  • Monitors sales, stock levels, and trends to maximize sales potential;
  • Practices techniques to exceed customer experience expectations;
  • Guides staff in ongoing improvement of selling techniques and customer-relationship building.

People Management

  • Provides leadership and direction to staff;
  • Assists the General Manager with people operations functions including supervision, recruitment, hiring, onboarding, coaching, performance feedback, and regular performance reviews;
  • Supports the database of Selling It Right certificates, monitors the expiration date of certificates, and ensures staff are equipped with government-issued ID while working.

Qualifications

  • Previous supervisory or management experience in retail, preferably in a liquor or cannabis environment.
  • Familiarity and experience with the Employment Standards Act
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and occasional overtime based on the needs of the store
  • Must have valid Selling it Right
  • Technical skills such as proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, point of sale, and inventory management systems are beneficial

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: From $49,920.00 per year

Education:

  • Secondary School (preferred)

Experience:

  • Management in Retail Cannabis: 1 year (required)
  • Retail management: 1 year (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

  • Selling it Right (required)
