Introduction & Key Role Objectives

WJ Groundwater is the leading construction dewatering and groundwater specialist in the UK with operations in Canada, the Middle East, Poland & the Philippines. We have specialized plant and equipment that allows us to install custom dewatering systems in various construction environments. WJ Canada has a long established business in Ontario/Quebec and has recently won a large dewatering contract in Vancouver and is looking to build a long term presence on Canada’s West Coast.


The primary function of this position is to develop market presence in the West Coast of Canada, assist in securing tenders, and contribute to the company's growth. This role reports to the President of the Canadian operations, based in Toronto. The employee will also work closely with other senior team members to manage and support the sales pipeline across other divisions of the company and will gain a strong understanding of the market and competitor landscape and help develop new and existing relationships with key contractors.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Business Development:
    • Promote WJ’s services within BC and on Canada’s West Coast.
    • Develop new business relationships and follow up on potential new business opportunities.
    • Maintain accurate records of business development activity, including regular reporting.
    • Support networking efforts with existing and prospective clients to enhance their awareness of WJ’s capabilities.
    • Conduct research on organizations and individuals online to identify new leads and potential markets.
    • Contact potential clients to establish rapport and arrange meetings.
    • Attend meetings, conferences, and industry events as needed.
    • Arrange Dewatering workshop, inviting relevant members of construction industry within 4 months of hire (workshop content will be managed by WJ technical staff)
  • Sales & Marketing:
    • Work with the team to support customer retention and facilitate post-tender follow-up activities to win projects, assess lost projects and keeping an up-to-date record of the tender status.
    • Prepare sales presentations for sales meetings.
    • Develop and execution of a sales and marketing strategy.

The above is not exhaustive and you will be expected to undertake any other duties that may reasonably fall within the level of responsibility and competence.


Qualifications and Experience

  • A motivated and hardworking individual with good verbal and written communication skills is essential.
  • Experience in business development or sales, ideally within the construction industry, is preferred.
  • A degree or graduate diploma/certificate in Marketing, Business Administration or a similar field of study. Candidates with a technical background interested in Business Development will also be considered.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively at various levels.
  • The ability to establish relationships with decision-makers by demonstrating an understanding their organizations’ needs and an understanding of WJ’s systems and services.
  • Enthusiasm and drive to pursue commercial opportunities.
  • Proactive, resourceful, and capable of working independently.
  • A high level of attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • An understanding of Hydrogeology, Engineering Geology, Civil Engineering, Construction or Environmental Engineering principles is considered beneficial but not necessary
  • Access to car and driver’s license

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

This position is primarily a work-from-home role. If an office is established in Vancouver, the role will be based out of that office. Travel is expected for this role to visit and meet clients or attend industry events and conferences.


Standard working hours are from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday. Occasional flexibility in working hours may be required.
