The mission of the Office of K-12 School Choice is to support quality public and private educational choice programs by providing information and assistance to promote successful outcomes for students, families, institutions, and communities.


Job Description:

The Program Specialist II is responsible for the programmatic and budgetary review of Charter Schools Program (CSP) grant applications to ensure these meet all federal and state statutory requirements.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial review process for new grant applications to ensure all applications meet federal and state statutory requirements for new charter schools.
  • Track and keep records of grant sub-recipients’ budget amendment reviews and recommend approval or disapproval.
  • Provide technical assistance to grant sub-recipients and charter school district contacts, both verbally and written, regarding the grant requirements and allowable expenditures.
  • Review and approve grant sub-recipients required documents to ensure compliance with grant requirements and restrictions. Identifies problems and recommends solutions to management.
  • Track and maintain monitoring oversight activities for all grant projects to ensure state and federal requirements are met in a timely manner.
  • Assist with active grant projects evaluation and annual performance reviews that includes end of project reports for all federal reporting.
  • Assist with projects as assigned by the CSP Grant Director and Charter School Director.
  • Performs related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two years of budget or grant experience, or directly related experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively including verbal and written communication.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to travel two to three times per year.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferences will be given to applicants who have excellent communication skills and experience working with grants.


Educational Substitutions

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university may substitute for four years of budget or grant experience.

LEAVE INFORMATION: (CS)

    • Annual Leave - All full-time Career Service employees filling established positions earn annual leave in varying increments dependent upon years of creditable service. Employees with up to 5 years of creditable service earn 8.667 hours per month, with 5 to 10 years earn 10.833 hours per month and those with over 10 years of service earn 13 hours per month. Employees in Senior Management Service and Selected Exempt Service positions are credited with 176 hours of annual leave upon appointment. In subsequent years, the annual allotment is credited on the anniversary date of the initial appointment.
    • Sick Leave -. Career Service employees earn 8.667 hours of sick leave credits per month.
