Part-Time Discovery Center Educator

COMPENSATION: $20.00/hour

Are you excited about space? Do you want to help inspire the next generation of space explorers? As a Discovery Center Summer Educator, you’ll work to help Space Foundation deliver its Summer of Discovery Program. Summer of Discovery is a 10-week program where general visitors and summer camp field trips learn the answers to questions about space exploration through experiential learning. Your role as a Discovery Center Summer Educator will be to inspire visitors to the Discovery Center and give them a world class experience.

Responsibilities and Duties
Temporary Part-Time Educator will be responsible for:
  • Coordinating with Discovery Center Programs Manager and Discovery Center Sales Manager on scheduled summer field trips
  • Organize and lead field trips
  • Teach space-themed lessons to students
  • Deliver Science on a Sphereâ Lectures
  • Lead Discovery Center scavenger hunts
  • Assist in daily preparation of Discovery Center programming
  • Assist educators with summer camps
  • Assist with drones, robots, and 3D printers when necessary
  • Work with Discovery Center volunteers to deliver out of this world experiences
  • Portential offsite travel for offsite programs


Job Types: Part Time, 20 Hours a week, morning or afternoon shift.
Reports to Discovery Center Programs Manager

Required experience:
  • 18 years of age
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Experience working with children
  • Positive attitude and outgoing nature

Individuals in this position will generally work indoors, and will have a workspace designated solely for them. Necessary office furnishings, equipment and supplies will be provided by the Foundation. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may periodically be required to work outdoors and would be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The employee may periodically be required to work in an offsite environment or at special events, and from time-to-time may be asked to travel on Foundation business, at the Foundation’s expense. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

JOB STATUS:
1). FLSA Classification: This position is non-exempt according to guidelines of the Fair Labor Standards Act and, as such, an individual in this position is eligible to receive overtime pay.

2). Full- or Part-Time: This position is part-time in nature. An individual in this position will regularly work a schedule consisting of 20 hours per week.

3). Work Location: This position’s primary work site is the headquarters location in Colorado Springs, CO.

4). Regular Schedule: Usual business days are Monday through Friday, holidays excepted, and usual business hours are from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. in the time zone in which the position is located. The nature and responsibilities of this position are such that it is eligible for flexible work scheduling, such as 4-day workweek or alternate start/end times, on a consistent or recurring basis.*
