Niagara Energy Products Inc. (NEP) is a large, heavy manufacturer serving the nuclear, oil and gas markets. Our largest customers are the nuclear power plant operators and nuclear waste processors in North America. Over the last two decades, our customers have come to trust NEP as a premier manufacturer of nuclear waste containers and primary pressure boundary components.

Based out of the Niagara Falls facility, NEP is currently recruiting for a Cost Estimator to report to the Sales Director and work closely with the Engineering and Purchasing teams. The focus of the work is on larger projects and proposals but there may be occasions to work on smaller tasks if work requirements demand it. This position is a full-time, permanent role and could lead to further roles in Engineering, Purchasing or Sales.

Job Overview:

The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating take-off with Engineering and production of Bills of Materials (BOM), estimating costs using industry standard methodologies for budgetary purposes, then coordinating with Purchasing to gain quotes for non-standard materials and services and regularly going to market for pricing of standard materials. Additional duties shall include tracking of material indices, tracking of standard material pricing, maintaining standard product costing e.g. repeat business container BOMs, updating standard product costing, progressing buy/make opportunities, investigating non-standard and new material sources and pricing, validating shipping costs, developing cross border shipping contacts and costing, and developing international shipping contacts and pricing.

Role

In this position, you will…

· Carefully review drawings and Technical Specifications (TS) pertaining to RFP/RFQ/RFI as they come into BID status. Coordinate such review with the engineer assigned to the project.

· Understand the scope of work to be BID on and liaise with Engineering, Purchasing, Quality and Sales to ensure the timely completion of estimates such that customer submission dates can be met.

· Coordinate and track estimation projects, seek help from various departments as necessary and keep Engineering and Sales updated with amendments or changes in customer requirements.

· Prepare estimates using industry standard tools and methodologies and work with others to agree the costing of non-standard materials or items.

· Establish an estimation process and make sure the process is implemented and followed.

· Provide the status of costing production and reassign efforts accordingly to meet proposal submission schedule.

· Highlight proposal gaps to Sales, Purchasing and Engineering such that they can be considered appropriately in the pricing process through contingency or other means.

· Monitor proposal costing on a weekly basis and report to the Production meeting.

· Participate in Price-to-Win meetings.

· Review and understand technical data to assist when seeking pricing from NEP’s suppliers.

· Working with Purchasing build, source and utilize working relationships with new suppliers to meet the developing needs of NEP.

· Develop complete understanding of in-house manufacturing capabilities as well as sub-contractors’ capabilities.

· Assist Purchasing in fulfilling our small and diverse business volume obligations as we are now classified as a large business.

· Make recommendations for cost control and cost reduction plans.

· Be a cross functional team player who actively supports their colleagues.

· Perform other related and developmental tasks as required.

Required Skills

Within your skills and qualifications, you will…

· Have a sound working knowledge as a Cost Estimator, possibly belong to a cost estimating association.

· Have design and fabrication drawing review experience. Ability to read and understand Mechanical Engineering drawings.

· Demonstrate a thorough understanding of basic fabrication processes namely machining, welding, bending etc.

· Have a minimum 5 years’ related industry experience.

· Either be or willing to become proficient in SolidWorks; with the aim of creating CAD models and quote drawings.

· Be able to successfully multitask across competing priorities to meet deadlines.

· Have the ability to work independently and integrate into a team effort.

· Take accountability for work performance, business integrity and trustworthiness.

· Have good and utilized interpersonal and communication skills.

· Be able to effectively use a computer particularly with MS Office products.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: $65,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
