Orphalan, a privately held company having been on the market in Europe for 5+ years selling a treatment for Wilson Disease. With the approval of Cuvrior for adult Wilson Disease patients in 2022 Orphalan established it’s US operations (Orphalan Inc) in 2022 and in 2023 Orphalan launched the first new treatment in the Wilson Disease market since 1997. To support the continued growth of Cuvrior in the US, we are looking to bring on 2 strategic and innovative Regional Sales Directors (East and West) to join the Orphalan team.

Overview:

Orphalan is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Regional Sales Director (RSD) to lead a team of 6 Key Account Managers (KAMs) responsible for promoting Cuvior, a treatment for patients with Wilson Disease. The RSD must bring demonstrated expertise in managing a high-performing sales team within the rare disease space. This sales leader will be accountable for the development and execution of a regional business plan to optimize the growth of Cuvrior in Wilson Disease. As part of the Orphalan/Cuvrior team you will report into the VP of Sales and Marketing.

Responsibilities:

  • Create executable business plans that meet both short term and long term brand and organizational goals.
  • Access and evaluate territory/region market dynamics and adjust sales direction and strategy based on those new learnings and insights.
  • Establish and maintain rigorous business fundamentals, behaviors, and metrics to meet or exceed sales goals for Cuvior in treating Wilson Disease.
  • Lead, coach, and motivate their team of 6 Key Account Managers (KAMs) to execute effective sales strategies.
  • Establish development plans for each member of their KAM team.
  • Adapt to dynamic market conditions and support both corporate and field-based teams, ensuring successful navigation in a highly specialized and evolving rare disease market.
  • Coach and mentor KAMs in line with Orphalan’s sales model to improve competencies in clinical knowledge, product understanding, business acumen, and reimbursement skillsets.
  • Routinely engage in field rides, face-to-face customer meetings, target planning, territory alignment, and hands-on employee development.
  • Effectively partner with Marketing, Medical Affairs and Market Access/Patient Services to support brand objectives and sales strategies.
  • Contribute to the development of national and regional sales plans that align with organizational goals, utilizing market and sales data analysis.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of regional and territory-level administrative tasks, including expense reporting, program funding requests, and management communications.
  • Build and continue to enhance relationships with key Local, Regional and National Thought Leaders.
  • Ensure consistent communication across all members of the US organization, including timely updates on performance and team members.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) required; advanced degrees preferred.
  • 12+ years of life sciences sales and commercial experience, with a minimum of 3 years of direct people leadership experience in rare disease/specialty biopharma.
  • Proven success in managing and coaching sales teams in the rare disease space, including experience with product launches and complex account management.
  • Experience in hepatology (adult) and/or rare disease is highly preferred.
  • Strong commercial breadth, with background in Sales, Marketing, Training, Market Access, or related fields preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute innovative sales strategies, especially in rare disease markets.
  • Expert in navigating complex accounts and leveraging relationships across healthcare systems to drive sales success.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, coach, and develop a team to achieve sales and brand/organizational objectives.
  • Experience with products distributed via specialty pharmacies and supported by patient services/hubs is required.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Adaptability – able to manage effectively through change.
  • High energy, drive for results, and a passion for making a meaningful impact in the lives of patients with Wilson Disease.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to present business performance to executive management, their sales teams and internal stakeholders.
  • Comfortable working in ambiguous situations, balancing short-term needs with long-term strategies.
  • Ability to travel extensively within the region, up to 60% overnight travel.
