Your role at GEI.

GEI is seeking a junior professional who can contribute to the continued growth within GEI’s structural team and is interested in working collaboratively with a talented group of design, management, and technical leaders. This team focuses on local road related infrastructure and public structures including bridges, culverts, buried structures, reservoirs and public facility buildings. We lead these projects from conception and design through to construction and certification. This position will support GEI’s structural engineering practice in our Guelph, Ontario office.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties
  • Complete and review detailed structural engineering design calculations, coordinating of drawings with drafting staff.
  • Develop and evaluate design alternatives.
  • Prepare design reports and review drawings.
  • Develop cost estimates and construction specifications.
  • Assist with contract tendering and administration services.
  • Carry out field work including structural condition assessments, field measurements, and construction site reviews.
  • Coordinating with utility agencies to support projects.
  • Assisting with delivery of other civil projects supporting our Land Development, Environmental, Linear or Water/Wastewater design teams, as required.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or directly related field from a recognized university.
  • 0+ years of previous professional experience in civil engineering and consulting; knowledge and familiarity with engineering design processes.
  • Ability to obtain P.Eng. in Ontario with experience.
  • Excellent technical report writing and communication skills.
  • Experience with Canadian design codes, standards, specifications and guidelines within the industry such as the Ontario Building Code (OBC), Ontario Provincial Standard Specifications (OPSS) and Drawings (OPSD), Municipal and City Design Guidelines, Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CSA S6), the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario's Structural Manual, and Ontario Structure Inspection Manual (OSIM) will be considered an asset.
  • Willingness and ability to work from the GEI Guelph office and travel to project/client sites as required.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license.
