Job Description

About us

At the Global CCS Institute, we unite over 200 members, including governments, global corporations, private enterprises, research institutions, and NGOs, all dedicated to shaping a net-zero future. As an international think tank, our mission is clear: to accelerate the adoption of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), a critical technology in combating climate change and achieving climate neutrality.

Headquartered in Melbourne, Australia, we have a global presence, with staff in Washington DC, Houston , London, Brussels, Abu Dhabi, Beijing, and Tokyo.

About the role and the team

We are seeking for Senior Business Development Lead. In this dynamic role, you will operate on a global scale with a particular focus on the Americas region, supporting the build-out of the CCS ecosystem as quickly and cost effectively as possible by sharing expertise, building capacity and providing information, advocacy and advice. You will play a pivotal role in executing the Institute’s business development strategy, driving impactful growth by cultivating and nurturing valuable business opportunities with both new and existing members and clients. You will directly support a diverse set of Institute members and critical stakeholders in their CCS activities and priorities, and make sure relevant stakeholders not yet pursuing CCS are being introduced and educated on the technology’s role in achieving climate neutrality.

Location: This hybrid role requires candidates to be based in or near Washington, D.C., or Houston, TX, for occasional in-person meetings. Domestic and international travel is required.

How will you contribute and your impact

  • Lead targeted business development and engagement activities in your region by understanding stakeholder needs and goals, generating meaningful external partnerships, communicating value propositions, identifying engagement opportunities, and delivering impact for the organization.
  • Act as the primary relationship manager for members, clients, and strategic partners, fostering long-lasting partnerships.
  • Represent the Institute at key events, delivering compelling messages that align with the Institute’s strategic priorities.
  • Project-manage business development and engagement deliverables, including member work programs and initiatives, to enable the Institute to convene effectively for maximum impact.

About you

We are looking for an individual who thrives when working in a team and engaging with clients. You are someone with excellent communication skills and a talent for identifying and nurturing strategic partnerships. Since our work focuses on carbon management, a solid understanding of climate change and enthusiasm for addressing it would be a great asset. Knowledge of carbon capture and storage technology, policy, and ecosystem—and or a willingness to learn—would be highly advantageous. Above all, you share our core values of integrity, quality, and collaboration.

We welcome applicants from diverse perspectives and experience levels! Whether you are an experienced business development professional ready to advance your career, in the early stages and looking to gain experience, or a CCS technical expert seeking new challenges, we encourage you to apply.

Skills and attributes of our ideal candidate:

  • A natural ability to connect and collaborate with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strategic communication skills that convey our mission with clarity and impact.
  • Exceptional negotiation, influencing, and verbal/written communication skills.
  • Public speaking skills that engage and inspire diverse audiences.
  • Strong business acumen to identify opportunities with a results-driven mindset and ambition to achieve challenging goals.

Moreover, we are looking for someone who recognizes the importance of:

  • Building meaningful relationships that foster trust and collaboration;
  • Striving for accountability, both for yourself and others; and
  • Embracing opportunities for continuous learning and growth.
