Job Description
The Quarto Group is seeking a highly motivated and organized National Account Manager. The National Account Manager will oversee the sales and business relationships for the Barnes & Noble and Books-A-Million accounts, driving sales growth, brand awareness, and product visibility across these key accounts. This role requires a deep understanding of the book retail landscape, proven sales skills, and strong analytical abilities. The ideal candidate will have experience in book publishing, a passion for reading, and a track record of achieving sales targets. This position will be based in our NY office on a hybrid schedule or 3 days in office and 2 days remote.
Key Results Areas
- Serve as the primary point of contact for Barnes & Noble and Books-A-Million, nurturing strong relationships with key account stakeholders.
- Develop and execute tailored account plans to drive growth and achieve sales objectives.
- Collaborate with frontlist buyers, category managers and liaisons to ensure appropriate product assortment, inventory levels, and promotional support across the accounts.
- Identify sales opportunities and develop strategies to increase revenue and market share within Barnes & Noble and Books-A-Million.
- Collaborate with marketing and editorial teams to design and implement promotions, seasonal programs, and featured displays.
- Conduct regular business reviews with each account, presenting sales data, competitive insights, and performance analyses.
- Liaise with editorial, marketing, and production teams to ensure timely delivery of titles, effective marketing support, and clear communication of account needs.
- Work closely with the demand planning team to forecast product demand and manage inventory flow.
- Monitor sales trends, stock levels, and reorder points to maximize availability and minimize stock-outs or overstock situations.
- Stay current on market trends, competitive titles, and emerging authors to inform account strategy.
- Provide feedback to internal teams on market shifts and customer preferences.
- Analyze POS data, sales trends, and market insights to optimize assortment, promotions, and placement strategies.
- Provide regular reporting on account performance, key metrics, and competitive positioning to management.
Minimum Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- 5+ years of sales or account management experience, preferably in book publishing or a related industry.
- Strong negotiation skills, data analysis expertise, and proficiency with sales tracking and forecasting tools.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills; able to work effectively with clients and cross-functional teams.
- Travel required.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.
