Job Summary:

Infrastructure Architects develop future technology and architectural advancements to support architectural strategy, technology migration, integration and evolution of the technical infrastructure. They focus on the development of infrastructure technology principles, standards, and patterns that can be highly leveraged across multiple solutions. The Infrastructure Architect provides the bridge between the deeply technical domain architects and the solution architects to ensure the technology infrastructure meets the goals of scalability and complexity reduction and supports the roadmaps defined by solution architects.

The Infrastructure Architect is responsible for designing and implementing enterprise infrastructure and platforms required for cloud computing. Analyzes system requirements and ensures that systems will be securely integrated with current applications. Infrastructure Architects are responsible for managing the cloud computing architecture in an organization, including the front-end platforms, servers, storage, delivery and networks required to manage cloud storage. Infrastructure Architects troubleshoots and corrects cloud application interruptions. Builds, tests, and deploys scalable tools and processes, which operate in the cloud.

This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Job Duties:

  • Manages professional employees and/or supervises medium to large, complex technical or business support or production operations team(s). Identifies required resources; trains, schedules and monitors resources; leads hiring process; accountable for effective use of resources.
  • Consults on application or infrastructure development projects to fit systems or infrastructure to the technical architecture, and identify when it is necessary to modify the technical/solution architecture to accommodate project needs.
  • Leads and coordinates the domain technical and business discussions relative to future architecture direction. Aligns architecture strategy with Agency goals. Defines, explains and advocates the DCS IT strategy.
  • Responsible for analysis, design, and development of roadmaps and implementation plans based upon a current vs. future state in a cohesive architecture viewpoint.
  • Supports, develops, and communicates domain-wide policies, standards, guidelines and procedures.
  • Designs standard configurations and patterns. Promotes the Enterprise Architecture (EA) process, outcomes and results.
  • Participates in the EA Governance process. Leads and facilitates the domain’s architecture governance process based on EA’s governance structure. Manages exceptions to architectural standards at a domain/portfolio level.
  • Provides strategic consultation to clients and IT teams. Advises on options, risks, costs versus benefits, system impacts, and technology priorities.
  • Works closely with project management to ensure alignment of plans with what is being delivered.
  • Assists in post-implementation continuous-improvement efforts to enhance performance and provide increased functionality. Ensures the conceptual completeness of the technical solution. Responsible for generating scripts and templates required for the automatic provisioning of resources.

  • Cloud technology concepts; networking concepts (e.g., Domain Name System (DNS), Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and firewalls); implementing and controlling the flow of data, to and from a service provider; Networking, Load Balancing, DNS, Virtualization (Hyper-V, VMWare), performance monitoring, and capacity planning; Microsoft Active Directory, Cloud Identity and Cloud Services
  • Information system configuration management
  • Cloud computing technologies and current computing trends

Selective Preference(s):

Azure Solutions Architect Certification is a plus.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree plus 10 or more years of experience in systems engineering, systems architecture, and systems design (or equivalent).

Must be able to secure and maintain an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card.

Must be able to secure and maintain clearance from DCS Central Registry.

Positions in this classification participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). Enrollment eligibility will become effective after 27 weeks of employment.
