GENERAL DESCRIPTION (1-3 LINES DESCRIBING ROLE):


The purpose of the Director of Information Technology position is to provide a vision and implementation for the successful integration and application of technology in the Public Schools of Northborough and Southborough. Performs comprehensive collaborative leadership, management, technical, and professional responsibilities to carry out the direction of the District’s technology program. Is the District’s key staff member on all matters related to Information Technology as it relates to supporting the infrastructure to promote the mission of education. The goal of this position is to ensure that information technology adds the maximum value to our organization.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Technology or Computer Sciences or other applicable field required.
  • Master’s degree in Technology, Business or other equivalent education and/or experience preferred.
  • Certifications preferred: Certified information systems security professional (CISSP), Cisco certified internetwork expert (CCIE), Cisco certified network associate (CCNA), Cisco certified network professional (CCNP), Certified information systems auditor (CISA), Project management professional (PMP), AWS certified solutions architect — professional, Certified in the governance of enterprise IT, Microsoft certified solutions expert (MCSE)
  • Proven experience in a leadership role and leading teams
  • Excellent knowledge of IT systems and infrastructure
  • Background in designing/developing IT systems and planning IT implementation
  • Solid understanding of data analysis, budgeting and business operations
  • Superior analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • A strong strategic and business mindset
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Massachusetts Valid Driver’s License is required.


ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES (NOT LIMITED TO):

  • Coordinates ongoing development and implementation of The Public Schools of Northborough and Southborough technology plan.
  • In collaboration with leadership team members, develops the department’s budget. Monitors budget expenditures, manages and secures grant funds, and monitors and complies with the requirements and expenditures through E-rate funding.
  • Meets regularly with Administrative Leadership Members to review progress on goals, discuss issues, solve problems, and develop in-the-moment and long-range technology needs.
  • Facilitates communication and collaboration between and among programs in the department and external to it; both with and outside of the school department.
  • Prepares reports and related materials for the purposes of communicating information to support district operations, including to internal and external constituents (ex: School Committee and state or federal agencies).
  • Maintains contemporary knowledge of technology platforms and trends, including pursuing technology-related professional development.
  • Although this position is a leadership role, may be needed to assist in hands-on implementation depending on project needs.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Instructional Technology & Digital Literacy, provides support for the implementation of the district plan for instructional technology, including supporting technology users in the schools, providing student access to technology, consulting on the selection of technology equipment and related materials, and systems.
  • Supports IT staff to provide professional development related to technology, information literacy, technology integration to school faculty and administration, as well as administrative support staff.
  • Coordinates administrative technology-related training, develops trainers within existing district staff, designs and delivers advanced workshops, and locates training resources outside the school system as needed. Serves as District contact and support person for school-based tech support staff.
  • Collaborates with the finance department in developing bid specifications for administrative technology equipment, and related materials, and school-wide data networks.
  • Investigates emerging technologies and assesses their potential for cost-effective use and optimization.
  • Plans for and oversees the equipment maintenance and replacement cycle, while partnering with the Director of Instructional Technology & Digital Literacy to maintain equitable student-to-computer ratios across schools.
  • Sets goals for the District’s data management, information management, internet services, technical support, and computer maintenance and repair. Identifies the life cycle for upgrading of systems.
  • Works on the development and maintenance of all areas of the Administrative Technology Program. This includes technical assistance, database management, and the production of the Department of Education, local, state, and federal reports.
  • Oversees Network management and upgrading.
  • Responsible for the administration of the District’s electronic communications and services (eg: email, VOIP, card access, security systems, etc.).
  • Works to ensure that all equipment and software is properly identified, marked, and stored in the inventory database.
  • Supervises staff responsible for developing, maintaining, and upgrading The Public Schools of Northborough and Southborough website.
  • Supervises the maintenance and upgrading of wireless networks in all of the school buildings.
  • Other responsibilities as needed.


Supervision
:

Responsibility: Performs varied and highly complex responsible work requiring the exercise of significant leadership, independent judgment, and initiative in the planning, administration, and execution of department services to meet the District’s technology and school needs. Planning and coordination regularly require responsibility for multiple, concurrent major projects. Develops and plans programs for technologies that affect a wide range of people; school employees, students, parents, and the community.


Supervision Received:
Works under the administrative direction of the Director of Operations, independently formulating decisions regarding procedures, operations, and department plans, and assuming responsibility for department results.


Supervision Scope:
Has direct and indirect supervisory responsibility for employees including administrative technology staff total direct and indirect employees. Hires staff, provides regular direction, reviews employees’ performance, and counsels staff consistent with goals and school policies.


WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


Work Environment:

Work is generally performed under typical school department office conditions. May be required to work outside of normal business hours and attend some evening meetings. The incumbent is required to attend numerous meetings with various committees.


Operates PC and MAC-based computer systems, components, and other standard office equipment.


Makes frequent and direct contact with local agencies and officials, community leaders, municipal employees, local groups, and the general public. Contacts are in person, by telephone, in writing, and via the internet. Contacts require considerable persuasiveness, resourcefulness, discretion, and negotiating skills to influence the decisions and behavior of other parties. Contacts involve attendance at meetings and conferences.


Has access to an extensive amount of district-wide confidential information relating to The Public Schools of Northborough and Southborough from databases. Confidential information may include but is not limited to, student information, bid proposals, and personnel records.
