Linux / Windows Field Support Engineer
Summary:
Provide installation and post installation support of NEC biometric fingerprint Solutions. Responsible for system support to include first level software support, as well as hardware.
Provide comprehensive IT support in multiple enterprise environments, specializing in fingerprint matching services for law enforcement agencies.
Duties include 24/7 On-call support ensuring the smooth operation of critical fingerprint matching services; collaborating with law enforcement personnel to troubleshoot and resolve user-reported issues, ensuring efficient criminal identification.
Tasks include administrating over 50 servers encompassing multiple server operating systems including Red Hat Linux, Microsoft Windows Server and VMware ESXi, that provide services such as Oracle databases, Active Directory, FTP/ SFTP/ SMTP/SSL interfaces, virtual machines, proprietary fingerprint matching software and Backup operations.
Lead system upgrade projects, ensuring seamless transitions to newer technologies while preserving data integrity.
Provide training and technical guidance to law enforcement staff on the proper use of fingerprint matching systems.
Implemente and enforce strict data security protocols to safeguard sensitive law enforcement data.
Conducte regular security audits and assessments to proactively identify and mitigate risks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ability to complete assigned paperwork, including system site documentation.
- Ability to perform remote access troubleshooting for Linux and Windows based Workstations.
- Ability to locate, read, and transmit system/workstation logs as needed.
- Install, repair and maintenance of Windows based workstation terminals.
- Ability to perform Linux and Windows configuration updates, troubleshooting and security management
- Install, repair and maintenance of RAID and SAN based data repositories.
- Knowledge and troubleshooting of Network LAN and WANS.
- Troubleshoot and install patches for a variety of Linux and Windows operating configurations.
- Troubleshoot and install patches for a variety of MBIS applications.
- Troubleshoot and install patches/problem fixes in Oracle.
- Maintain high customer relations through professional and ethical conduct.
- Occassional travel to remote customers
- Assist with the sales and account management effort by conferring with customer personnel regarding system performance, tuning, expansion and upgrade opportunities.
- Assist management in project reporting and operational decision making, as needed.
- May require standby coverage—Contract/Location Dependent.
- Consult with Sr. Hardware Engineer, Systems Engineers, Regional, National, and NEC technical support groups as required to resolve difficult system problems and to exchange information on system performance, configuration, problem resolution, and other technical information.
- Attend site assigned meeting as needed.

Prerequisites:
Education: Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university
Experience: Two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
The anticipated salary range for this position is $50,000 - $65,000 with a target annual 3% bonus; depending upon the selected candidate’s relevant experience, the exact salary for the role may fall outside of this range. This role will also be eligible to participate in the Company’s bonus/incentive program(s).
