Summary of Position

The salary for this position will typically be between $96,000 - $225,000 per year, based on performance.

The General Sales Manager at Knudtsen Foothills Mazda and Lincoln is responsible for managing the entire sales operation and team, including the Sales Managers and the F&I Team. This position is a key member of the Management team that will work closely with the General Manager to set and meet sales goals. The GSM will handle the inventory according to watch for market trends and the advertising budgets for the entire sales department of the dealership. Will also be responsible for ensuring the cash flow of the facility is being managed appropriately by the F&I Managers.

Responsibilities

  • Hires, trains, supervises, schedules, and monitors the performance of the sales department.
  • Participates in the preparation of the annual dealership forecast by projecting unit sales, gross profits, expenses, and operating profits for the sales department.
  • Meets with sales department managers to establish annual and monthly objectives for unit sales, gross profits, expenses, and operating profit.
  • Ensures that sales managers understand and follow dealership policies, procedures, and sales systems.
  • Provides frequent feedback to department personnel.
  • Establishes standards for displaying, merchandising, and maintaining vehicles.
  • Issues all demonstrators and ensures that appropriate dealership records are maintained.
  • Studies local market conditions, demographics, and past sales history. Makes recommendations to the General Manager regarding short- and long-range advertising plans, sales promotions, and visual display of advertisements.
  • Maintain third-party sales marketing relationships and budgets.
  • Conducts major sales promotions and advertising as needed.
  • Addresses customer complaints to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Creates systems that ensure ongoing sales training, including weekly sales meetings.
  • Facilitates new vehicle pre-delivery with service manager.
  • Greets and offers assistance or direction to all customers as needed.
  • Performs sales manager duties as needed.
  • Maintain prospect development and owner follow-up systems to encourage repeat and referral business.
  • Manages all appointment counts for sales staff.
  • Keeps the finance department informed about the products they sell.
  • Complete required training and keep up to date on new products, features, accessories, etc. and the consumer benefit.
  • Ensures all sales activities are compliant with OEM, federal, state, and local regulations and requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must be a team player focused on providing ethical and exemplary customer service.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to set and achieve targeted goals.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must have 3 years of experience in automotive sales management.
  • Working knowledge of computers, basic software, and Internet, and ability to learn database management and customer relationship software.
  • Familiarity with all federal, state, and local laws which govern retail automobile sales, as well as a basic knowledge of equity, values, and depreciation and can explain them to the customer.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record (will be required to pass a MVR review).
  • Will be required to pass a criminal background check and drug test (we do not test for marijuana).
  • Also subject to random drug testing at the company's request.

Supervisory Responsibilities

The GSM oversees the Sales department to include all new and used Sales Managers; Finance Managers; Lot Attendants; Sales Associates, Business Development Associates; and the Sales Receptionist.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: work standing up, walk, use hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment, speak and listen (both over the phone and in person to customers and fellow employees). While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Team Members regularly works 40 hours per week. While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and chemicals. Frequently (not limited to) working in the Sales Office, which includes computer work, customer service, phone calls, and inventory duties. The employee is occasionally exposed to inclement weather conditions and combustibles. May be a fast paced working environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
