Job Description

Under the direction of the Floral Manager, the Lead Gardener, Horticulture & Floral oversees floral designs, assigns duties, and manages work flow in the floral department. The individual selected for this role is responsible for overseeing all interior plants and living wall on property, in addition to the upkeep of outdoor gardens and plants, in addition to leading a talented design team. The Lead Gardener provides creative and artistic guidance on projects to ensure consistent maintenance and floral beautification throughout the property by maintaining, watering, pruning, and dusting synthetic plants. Responsible for working on assignments independently if required. All duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental and property policies, practices, procedures, and guidelines. The Lead Gardener, Horticulture & Floral also collaborates, initiates, and supports opportunities with other functions by championing the goals and priorities of the Tribe in a manner that faithfully reflects and upholds the Tribes vision, mission and values.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Provides professional leadership by guiding, prioritizing, and delegating workload to the Horticulture & Floral team to ensure that indoor and outdoor gardens are maintained as specified by department quality guidelines. Oversees the safety and maintenance of the Horticulture & Floral warehouse facility, including the vehicles and ensures daily/weekly tasks are completed by the assigned to members to meet aesthetic standards.

2. Trains employees, assists with their design work, and follows up on their assignments.

3. Monitors and processes Customer Relationship Manager (CRM) and Go Concierge orders.

4. Maintains inventory and ensures all floral supplies and equipment are ordered in a timely manner.

5. Answers multi-phones, takes phone orders, and resolves any issues with floral orders.

6. Performs rounds at all properties to ensure quality control.

7. Communicates effectively with Horticulture management, vendors in the floral industry, and guests upon request.

8. Helps establish new procedures to improve efficiency in the department.

9. Drives and operates company vehicles and motorized carts to travel between properties, make deliveries, and set-up functions.

10. Perform other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.

Education/Experience/Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of floral design experience
  • A minimum of two (2) years in a supervisory role leading and managing teams is required.
  • A minimum of two (2) years in high-end, high-volume design experience, experience in hotel Horticulture preferred.
  • Must be able to follow departmental safety guidelines when using required chemicals, equipment, and tools while performing assigned duties.
  • Equivalent combination of education and progressive, relevant and direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational/experience requirements indicated above.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) required.
  • Experience with internet web navigation applications and acquaintance with other business software.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills required with good motivational and collaboration emphasis.
  • Ability to communicate change effectively, overcomes resistance and builds commitment.
  • Ability to multi-task and perform efficiently in a fast paced, high demand environment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and meet deadlines.
  • Possesses strong attention to detail and great organizational skills.
  • Analytical and excellent customer service skills.
  • Possesses enthusiasm and acts in a collaborative manner in both individual and team projects.
  • Must be personable and professional, capable of using caution and discretion in communication.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations

  • At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
  • A qualified candidate/employee must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the company’s insurance carrier.
