About the position

Reporting to the Manager of Accounting, Pricing and Costing, the Senior Accountant is reviews and approves all vendor bills, as well as invoices related to third party warehousing, freight, and Customs duties. Responsibilities include reviewing and updating the status of customer payments in Company systems; finalizing accounts and carrying out bank reconciliations; calculating distributor rebates and cash discounts; preparing monthly HST reports; carrying out month-end reviews; proposing and implementing accounting controls; identifying inefficiencies and presenting recommendations. Crucially, you will share our commitment to protecting the environment by offering products that are organic or eco-friendly in nature.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Accounting & AP

· Review and approve all vendor bills – accounts payable, as well as third party warehousing, freight charges, and Customs duties

· Review and update status of customer payments in appropriate systems

· Carry out bank reconciliations and enter adjustments as needed

· Calculate distributor rebates and cash discounts, and carry out expense analysis

· Prepare monthly HST reports for review by supervisor

· Carry out month-end review and finalization of accounts

· Propose and implement approved accounting controls

· Handle other account-related tasks and special projects as assigned

· Keep up to date on best practices in bookkeeping

Supervisory/Human Capital

· Supervise small team of junior accountants

· Provide team members with healthy, safe, and respectful work environment

· Set priorities, develop work schedule, and monitor progress towards goals

· Meet with each team member regularly to review progress, plan ahead

· Keep up to date on matters relating to employment law and HR practices

Qualifications and Requirements

· College-level courses in bookkeeping or accounting

· CA or CMA designation preferred

· At least five (5) years of experience, with track record of success in overseeing and coaching team members, managing accounts payable, identifying inefficiencies, gathering information, and presenting recommendations to management

· Proficient in relevant computer software (including QuickBooks)

· Strong ability to compile, analyze, and interpret financial information

· Excellent knowledge of general accounting principles

· Fully comfortable with MS Office and video conferencing software

· Excellent analytical and presentation skills

· Solid interpersonal and written communication skills

· Excellent numerical and time management skills

· Solid understanding of financial reporting and general ledger structure

· Willingness to work outside of regular business hours, as needed
