Business Analytics Specialist | GB Business Analytics & Advice – Sponsor Analytics/Insights as a Product

The Insights as a Product team is responsible for providing accurate data, visualization, and business analytics across the Group Benefits organization and our customers. The Business Analytics Specialist will play a key role in defining data driven solutions to tackle business area problems, tracking down & understanding new data sources, while having the opportunity to collaborate with members of a highly engaged Agile Kanban Business Analytics squad in Group Benefits.

The Business Analytics Specialist will be accountable for understanding the business needs of our Product & Platforms team, translating requirements into agile stories, data views, insightful dashboards that tell a story, while applying BI/UX standard methodologies. They will be actively engaged in our analytics development cycle from an ideation/requirements/testing perspective, while also investigating data issues and answering data inquiries from our business partners. These interactive solutions will range from simple one-page dashboards to multi-page story telling packages with complex benchmarking.



Responsibilities

  • Design and define requirements for Power BI solutions (simple to complex) with multiple data source connections including Azure data lake & SSAS
    • Create user stories
    • Test/validate newly developed Power BI items
  • Develop Proof of Concept Business Analytics reports/dashboards, gathering feedback for enhancements
  • Become a data domain authority while expanding Group Benefits eye for business
    • Investigate & analyze new data sources and how they connect to existing data models
  • Collaborate/coordinate with the Agile Kanban squad and business partners to deliver the Sponsor Analytics roadmap
  • Support steady-state Power BI reports
  • Develop and update user documentation
  • Support adhoc requests for data & visualization when required
  • Assist with end-user training as needed

What we are looking for

  • Demonstrable experience in a Business Analytics / Business Analyst role; 3+ years of innovative Power BI report development
  • University/College in computer science, information technology, math or a related field
  • Experience in creating user stories & requirements in an Agile environment
  • Experience transforming chaotic reporting processes into understandable Business Analytics solutions
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL
  • Experience with data visualization, storytelling, data modeling & UX standard methodologies
  • Experience with Microsoft BI stack (including Analysis Services, Paginated Reports, Data Gateway, Power Pivot & Azure SQL)
  • Experience with Microsoft Power Query, M, DAX & SQL
  • Experience with Data Lakes, Data Warehousing & Data Marts
  • Experience with RLS & Embedded Power BI is an asset
  • Experience working with SSAS data models is an asset
  • Experience with SSRS development is an asset
  • Proven abilities to take initiative and be innovative
  • Analytical mind with a problem-solving proficiency
  • Capable of adapting quickly, managing multiple demands & competing priorities, while delivering to deadlines
  • Experience and business knowledge in Financial Services and/or Group Benefits is a valuable asset

Salary & Benefits

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location

Waterloo, Ontario

Salary range is expected to be between

$74,270.00 CAD - $137,930.00 CAD

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
