Summary:

The work schedule for this position is Full Time (40 hours per week). Intermittent overtime is required for night and weekend events.


Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time (three weeks) of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

Must be available to travel throughout Canada, particularly Halifax’s extensive consular district, to support Mission press and online media, and program engagement activities.


Duties

The Strategic Communications Coordinator works under the direct supervision of the Consul General (CG), in coordination with the Country Public Affairs Officer (CPAO) in Ottawa. The position has no supervisory responsibilities. Monitors regional press and digital media coverage of issues of importance to the United States. Maintains Consulate digital properties (social media, website content, mobile). Researches and analyzes audiences for Consulate digital properties; customizes and develops online and in person engagement to promote Mission objectives. Coordinates closely with Public Engagement/Resource Coordinator to plan and implement messaging efforts in both traditional press outlets and social/digital media platforms in support of public outreach activities in the Halifax consular district. Elements for Consulate engagement with regional publics, in a variety of formats required for dissemination through online, traditional broadcast, and in-person channels. Visual and multimedia content includes: video and audio material; storyboards; graphics; artwork; photos; photo galleries; and similar visual and multimedia products. Develops custom-produced digital projects in support of specific public engagement goals with target audiences (for example, video in support of specific policy initiatives).


Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:

Work Experience: a minimum of four years of progressively responsible experience in a media outlet, think tank, university, NGO, international organization, foreign embassy, government office, or corporation is required, with responsibility for public relations, public affairs, journalism, communications, marketing, outreach events, press conferences, and other media interactions as significant parts of the job. Must have experience managing digital properties, and content creation in multimedia and traditional formats, is required.


Must have a valid, current driver’s license for standard vehicles.

Education Requirements:

Education :A university degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, International Relations, Political Science, or Economics is required.

Evaluations:

LANGUAGE: English - Fluent in Reading/Writing/Speaking is required. This may be tested.

The US Mission offers competitive salary, robust benefits, professional development and celebration of American and Canadian holidays. This position is currently eligible for telework.


For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.


The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.

The certification letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate military branch of the service and contain (1) the military service dates including the expected discharge or release date; and (2) the character of service. ** This level of preference applies to all Foreign Service employees on LWOP and CS with re-employment rights back to their agency or bureau.
