As the Director of Sales, you'll provide direction and leadership for the entire portfolio of accounts within your team. You will also drive senior level relationships with customer HQs, in partnership with the broker (where applicable). In this role you are accountable for the achievement of account-specific goals including volume objectives, delivery of assigned trade spend targets, forecast accuracy, promotional execution, distribution targets, new item speed to shelf, SRP management, and execution of the plan. As the Director of sales thought leadership is also required to deliver innovative, fact-based, creative solutions to accelerate targeted growth. This role also involves significant people leadership skills. Not only are you required to drive the business, but you are also required to drive developmental growth within your team while also assisting in building KIND's culture. In addition, the Director of Sales will provide leadership and direction for the entire Sales team to ensure consistent execution, delivery against sales targets inclusive of trade delivery.

And this is how you will do it….

Achievement of sales objectives and specific volume goals through execution of account plans and brand strategies.
  • Grow sales and distribution in all areas, including new categories to KIND
  • Focus on achievement of optimal AMPPS (assortment, merchandising, price, promotion and shelving)
  • Manage trade funds to support marketing and promotional plans, determining pricing and distribution and negotiating with key accounts in a direct and in-direct sales environment
  • The ability to forecast accurately for a dynamic category and innovation
  • Providing leadership to downstream a direct and indirect team of KIND team member and broker managers
Develop and deliver customer strategies to achieve objectives within budget, and short & long-term plans through best practice thought leadership.
  • Develop and own annual customer strategies and planning process
  • Present annual marketing plans to customers and execute plans
  • Create and execute clear and accountable broker scorecards
  • Lead team meetings to achieve alignment and results
Collaborate with KIND internal teams to align with brand and category objectives and develop go-to-market retail strategy to deliver execution excellence
  • Work closely with Category Management, Sales strategy and trade marketing, supply chain and other team members to produce timely business updates for senior leadership.
  • Collaborate with Customer Service, Demand Planning, Finance and KIND internal teams to manage deductions and supply chain both to deliver goods in timely and efficient manner with on time and in full payment
Manage broker partners through regular meetings (in person and virtual), scorecard creation and execution and clear communication and follow-up to ensure execution excellence.
  • Provide strategic direction and guidance to broker team to support AAMPS planning and customer meetings.
  • Set monthly and yearly objectives / KPI's and manage and measure progress holding the broker accountable
  • Pre-plan with broker partner by reviewing data and developing customer strategies prior to customer meetings
  • Work with broker to provide post-promotional analysis to understand ROI and competitive activity
  • Work with broker to develop strong Retailer relationships through customer meetings, customer engagement strategies, account penetration

People and organizational leadership
As a member of the Sales Leadership team, you will support the development and execution of the overarching strategic direction of the organization. You will also play an active role within SLT, Sales meetings and other organizational meetings.

As a Sales Director with direct report(s) you will:
  • Provide coaching in the development and execution of account plans
  • Build an effective and engaged team leveraging the culture survey results to drive continuous improvement
  • Have overarching responsibility by holding direct reports accountable in the delivery of their sales plans and objectives
  • Ensure your direct reports have robust development and objective plans and regular performance discussions in line with the KIND process
  • Liaison with other departments to drive a strong working relationship, while continuing to ensure needs on both sides are being met
  • Share best practices, celebrate success, and drive continuous grow from your team

  • Expert knowledge of concepts within the sales function and basic knowledge in other areas, such as sales operations, supply chain, and marketing
  • Working Expert knowledge of trade promotion management and customer and business impacts
  • Ability to lay out practical and logical assortment plans based on retail space, inventory turn, and sell through
  • Ability to tell a holistic story verses taking a transactional approach.
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate and influence outcomes with both internal and external contacts.

You have…
  • Bachelor's Degree required, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of CPG experience in Sales, Account Management, Marketing, Category Management or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5 yrs people leadership experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with major national Canadian accounts, such as Loblaws, Shoppers Drug Mart, Walmart, Sobeys, Metro, Costco)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working and influencing a broker network
  • A proven and successful people leader
  • Expert understanding of CPG industry sector and competitive landscape
  • Ability to portray a confident and winning attitude in challenging business interactions.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills. Strong presentation skills required
  • Proficient in Microsoft office, including PowerPoint and Excel, required
  • A high degree of self-motivation, discipline and the ability to work independently
  • Ability to apply financial data to make decisions and influence outcomes. This includes margins, retail math, forecast/projections, velocities, and other analytical skills not mentioned.
Pluses
  • Strong knowledge and working relationship with category analytical tools
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of internal reporting systems (TradePro, Data Warehouse) and any customer specific reporting tools.
  • Knowledge of the 'better for you' categories through experience or personal interest
